It is going to happen. If the guys and gals over at FDK do get that Seneca V in, I WILL do the twin rating. The only thing is that the Seneca will require 50 hours total and 10 in type (or checkout at FDK). Although that's reasonable, the price for rental might be as high as $275. But this is a Seneca V, we're talking, with everything. Time to add a couple more students to my roster!

OK, bear in mind this is all preliminary, as in "well, I've heard that there might be this and there might be that on the horizon," but this is Frederick Flight Center. IME, this is one of the best flight schools in the country, and I've been to a few. :D Whether or not anything materializes will depend, of course, on the details of the leaseback.
 
I know FFC, and concur with Ben that they are an excellent flight school. However, I thought they were still using Seminoles for ME training -- when did they get the Seneca V?

You are correct. Currently, they have only one Seminole, and that is to be used only for training. The Seneca V thing is something "in the wind," meaning, a couple of CFIs there have heard that it is trying to be negotiated with one of their clients there. I guess with leasebacks, you never know.

As high as? Heck, $275 is a bargain for that plane. Locally, a 1978 Seneca II goes for $255. DA42's around the country go for $285.

The coolest thing about the Seneca V is all the overhead switches. :yes:

Understood. In any event (and it may be your plan already), you (and they) might be wise to do the initial ME training in the Seminole and leave the Seneca checkout until you have the rating and at least half of the 50 hours of ME time needed to rent? ME training is just too hard on those turbocharged Seneca V engines.

Oh yes, you're right. I am pretty sure there would be no engine out practice on that Seneca. And it makes better financial sense to train in the Seminole, as you note.
