I understand PBS is airing something about Gail S. Halvorson on TV Monday night. Check your local listings for times. I know I will be looking. Bob

I just checked the channel guide, and the episode of "American Experience" is about the Berlin Airlift. It comes on a 9:00pm Eastern. BTW, after our discussion of Gail Halvorsen, I purchased the Berlin Candy Bomber and am reading it now. A great story about a great man!

What channel is this on? I'm searching Tivo, and am not finding it. Scratch that. I just found it on PBS, WTTW in Chicago, at 20:00 on 2/1 and 2/3. Not showing up on 1/29.

Did y'all see it? It was very good, and featured Gail Halvorson. That man IMHO, is the very definition of the word "Gentleman".

I saw it here on Georgia public television. A great show. I thought it cool that the Gerrmans were flabbergasted at how the Americans trusted them to work on their planes so soon after the war, and how the Americans thought the Germans did a great job keeping them flying.

I was particularly touched when the German lady who had received the package of candy from Halvorson spoke about her own father's death, and that from the time she got that package on, she considered him to be her father. Very touching.

Frank ---- I know for a fact the Gail and that German Girl ,Mersadi or something like that, are very good friends. They send youngsters back and forth on the exchange student program. Hal was the CO at Templehof in about 1970 and he and his family lived there for several years. Now every time he visits Germany he goes and visits her. Bob

If you have a (*cough*) Series 3 Tivo with a digital tuner it's repeated often on the subchannels like 11.2

Um.... I have a Series 2 Tivo, and my cable box has a digital tuner. However, a) I don't think you get fractional channels unless you have HDTV, not just digital. Us poor peons without HDTV only have INTEGER channels! :) It's a good thing you must have HDTV, because I think you just invited me over to watch the Super Bowl! ROTFLMAO!

And b), since it apparently wasn't shown on Channel 11 yet, it couldn't be rebroadcast. As far as I can tell, the first broadcast is on the 1st, with a rebroadcast on the 3rd. The Tivo website is just where I did my search; it could have as well been tvguide.com, and has nothing to do with being able to bring in the channel.

So, for those who haven't seen it yet, you likely still have a chance, either on your regular channels or on HDTV subchannels.

:)

Not exactly. Digital over the air can be HDTV but HDTV isn't required.

WTTW has 4 digital channels. 11.1 is PBS HD, 11.2 is WTTW Digital often HD, 11.3 is PBS digital with PBS show rebroadcasts. Most of those are 480i, which standard def.

I only have a 20" wide screen 1920x1200 computer monitor that I can use for HDTV because it has component inputs. I use the Series 3 Tivo with my old 31" SD TV and the monitor. I'm holding off getting a real HDTV for a while longer until 1080p LCDs are common and a bit cheaper.

I have Season Passes for Nova, American Experience, Ask This Old House, etc. that it gets on two or three of those digital channels - over the air.

Okay, I'm now confused. Since, as I said, I can only enter integer channels, how on earth do you tune something like 11.2? Are you not using the Series 3 as an HDTV receiver, even if the signal is then degraded for display on a standard television?

On Comcast, I see WTTW (11), WTTW (92), WTTWC (242). There's also something called PBSD1 (191) that has no picture that I can display. I would guess that it is an HDTV signal.

Plus, for this specific case, to bring this back on topic, I was on WTTW's site and saw only WTTW and WTTWD (digital). I didn't check to see whether WTTWD mapped to WTTW (92) or WTTWC (242). Neither of the listings have this show being on before 2/1. Were you able to record it over WTTW on 1/29?

I'm willing to help him move, but I was actually kidding about the Bowl. And yes, Mike, that's an offer. Just choose a non-flyable day, huh? :)
