Sure looks like models are starting to agree on an east coast landfall as a major hurricane, some time next week:

Probably not too early to start thinking about plans if you’re anywhere in the path.

Feel free to consider Copperhill, TN or Lenoir City, TN as possible destinations away from the coast. I can do my best to provide transportation and/or lodging, though it may be somewhat primitive.

Let me know...

Thanks for the offer, northeast looking ok so far.

That's great of you to offer that up.
Now for the punchline

well let's see, the KCUB trip is scheduled for next weekend, sooooooooo yeah, expect hurricanes to hit right about that time.

I'm sure landfall will coincide with my scheduled annual. Never fails!
Mother Nature has despised us ‘Pilots of America’ this summer, especially the SE variety. Looks like she’s about to make her wrath on us yet again.

Getting settled into HHI for the week...will report conditions. So far it’s beautiful and 90. :D

I may have to visit early and rescue my nephew and neice attending USC.

I’ve have to cancel my room before midnight on Thursday to not get charged.

yeah I think I have til 48 hours before to cancel as well. given the accuracy of any of the weather people, I'm not losing hope yet.

I vote for the light purple line. Also looks like a few more tracks in the current model have trended more to the north. Good news as any trending this early usually continues over several days - the odds of a complete miss are going up.

However, I also got 3 cases of water today and tomorrow I'll clean and sanitize our water cubes.

If there’s any justice in the world, that thing will turn into a cat 5 and park on top of DC for a week or two.

At least it’s not Florida this time. I still see roofs with blue tarps left over from Irma last year.

We're trying to drain the swamp. Not fill it up!!

I just saw a prediction for Cat 4 a day before it makes landfall in NC.

Well your social security check and Medicare reimbursement will be pretty soggy then.

The only social security I see is the deduction from my paycheck. I’m perfectly good with that getting soggy, or obliterated altogether.

Nor will we see any of that money again. Too many takers, not enough givers.

Blame that on the politicians, who took our money in the name of retirement then couldn't not spend it creating new entitlements. After all, it was so much money, just sitting there . . . . I've never planned to get any of it back. The geniuses in DC can be trusted slightly less far than I can throw their fat asses without assistance.

still a major storm prediction, although it will weaken shortly after.

I had hope that it was trending northward - it went myrtle, north myrtle, state line, southport...so I was hoping it would keep shifting farther north. But now it's stopped at southport (Wilmington, NC). Coming inland, I'd guess it goes between Raleigh and Fayetteville, over Chapel Hill, west of RDU before curving back to the NE. Best guess.

Hoping for minimal damage, but I will probably get hurricane force winds ~20 mi SE of Raleigh.

We are still five days out, tropical systems are fickle beasts. I am flying to DC via PHL on Friday, made a rental car reservation just in case for the last leg home.

I hope it doesn't blast through the midwest; we got 4.5" inches of rain over the weekend from the remnants of the tropical storm; that was plenty, thank you.

A motorcycling group I’m a member of has a rally starting Thursday in Maggie Valley, NC.

Could be a soggy one.

And these storms can wreak deadly havoc inland if they hang together into the Appalachians. I forget which storm it was, but I recall 14 were killed inland in the mountains of NC, maybe 15 years ago?

Anyway, anyone based on the coast from maybe Savannah to D.C. should at least be thinking about options. Many hangars will not fare well in a Cat 3 or Cat 4 storm.

I've offered my friends in coastal NC to come stay with us if they need.

Maggie valley looks like a great camping location. fun to drive thru on the way to the casino, too.
