I’ve flown into the Bahamas 10+ times and have never had any pilot documents checked or examined. This is not say that someone won’t but customs and immigration at the out island airports is looking for passports, flight history, cargo and such.

Have your papers in order for your own peace of mind, then don’t worry about it.

I’ve never had them checked in the Bahamas, but I’ve had them checked often when returning to the US. @Samuel Seidel , I assume when you say “no medical” , you mean you are flying under Basic Med. since I don’t fly under Basic Med, I don’t know how CBP deals with that.

So let’s say for example you fly to someplace that does requires a medical but doesn’t check and/or care in practice. When you fly back to the US what will happen?

Will CBP write you up for breaking a foreign law?

I just flew to Exuma a couple weeks ago. I’ll add two things to this thread:
  • Exuma has an advisory control tower. Frequency 118.0. That’s not on the sectional, though. The tower operator will give you weather and runway info, ask for you to report your position, but doesn’t give you any clearances. I think it’s analogous to a FSS being on-airport back in the day.
  • Arriving, they will need to see your health visa and will ask to see your vaccination card (even if you uploaded it their website before).
  • Coming back to the US, nobody ever checked for a return antigen test. I think that is airline only. YMMV.

It is not airline only, it covers part 91 as well. I have not been asked for one, but when I asked CBP if they were going to want to see it on our arrival, he said have it available they are doing "spot checks".
