I recently flew into a Class D field. Tower said he couldn’t see my transponder, and it still wasn’t coming through after recycling. He cleared me in, I checked the plane and it turned out to be that the antenna was broken. How, I don’t know - the missing piece was not in my hangar and I hadn’t been anywhere with tall weeds or anything. I’ll own it for doing a lousy preflight.

FlightAware shows the entire flight. So, my question is how does FlightAware show everything from ADS-B but tower couldn’t see it?

Is your ADSB Out through the transponder on 1090MHz? Or are you using a UAT ADSB Out on 978MHz?
Although ADSB is required in many areas, a lot of ATC are not using or displaying ADSB. I've asked a few towers about the ADSB and they say they are not using it.

BTDT with my 335. Even without an antenna, apparently enough of a signal squirts out to be picked up by ADS-B receivers on the ground, but not SSR.
