Tower hours - KGWO

OK, so I feel dumb. Let's start there.

Where in the tarnation will I get an indication that this tower will be closed on weekends. What did I miss?

Recently on a weekend flight I wanted to go direct through the KGWO Class D. Sometime around 2pm on a Saturday. Called up Tower. No reply. Tried a few more times until some kind soul came on to let me know the tower was closed on weekends.

A hurried check of NOTAMs revealed nothing. A check of the Chart Supplement shows 1400z to 0000z operating daily. Airport is listed as attended Sun-Sat.

Then it happened a second time.

I'm a dumby because I obviously can't figure out what should be telling me this. and this is PPL 101. I'm prepared for someone to point me to the line in the CS that I'm simply not seeing but...

Well I’m as dumb as you, then. above right on the sectional is a note about class d airspace & checking notams, but I couldn’t find one.

I am not home to look at my logbook atm, but one was last year and one was this year. I'll try to check later.

It's entirely possible that I just missed a NOTAM along the way. Once. I'd just be surprised/embarrassed if I missed it twice!

One, I thought it happened recently. ….never mind. I found the ones from 23

Happens in JKA, manning issues. If the ATIS is not broadcasting, and no answer… proceed as if uncontrolled.

They were both recent in the sense that this was twice in the past two months. Both times I had packed foreflight properly before departure, No NOTAMs were found in either the preflight briefing (possible I missed them) and none were listed when I checked foreflight while flying (I CAN be sure of checking this).

This has accomplished one goal for me. At least I’m not just missing some hours notation in the CS.

Now I need to see how I could be missing it in foreflight. Apparently twice.
