I'm in the pattern cleared for t&gs and I want to request a full stop. Tower is in communication with other aircraft as well.

Should I say who I am talking to first? or just my ID and request.

for example:

1. Palomar tower, seven papa yankee requesting a full stop.

or

2. Seven papa yankee requesting a full stop.

I vote for#1 since it is the proper phraseology.

I don't disagree with either of the previous responses. However, if I'm closed traffic making T&G and the controller is familiar with me then it can be as Ron said. But I have also seen where if I am at an unfamiliar aprt and decide to stay in the patt for several laps and that controller is unfamiliar with me then they may insist on the proper phraseology. Why, I don't know, just my experience.

No need to formally address the tower if you have already established contact. If you're talking on tower frequency, and you are not the tower controller, then it should be obvious to said tower controller that you are talking to him. The point of using the tower name on your initial call-up is to verify you are calling the correct facility. If neither you nor the tower has changed frequencies since then, it is not necessary to do this check on every transmission.

Therefore, in your example, "Seven papa yankee requesting a full stop," is sufficient and saves precious frequency time.

I'm not a big T&G fan but I think every time I've asked for one I've been cleared for "the option" which means I can either do a T&G or a full stop. YMMV.

You mean you don't make the approach to a fast taxi hover and lift off to an inside loop? I remember several days watching Cobras do that for a few hours each day at MCAS Kanehoe.

Nah. I was thinking airplane! In helos they usually just clear you to land whereever you want to go :)

...or a stop-and-go or a low approach. All are included in "the option."

i've only done t&gs a few times at crq, but i've always had to ask for the option. my question was more of just an example for tower communications when contact has been established already though.

thanks for the replies.
