Tornado Alley

no kidding. I called ATIS at PWA this afternoon to get wind speeds, and the recording was a shaky voice telling all approaching and departing aircraft of tornados in the vicinity. Sirens went off at work right in the middle of the 4pm rush to get freight out, and stayed intermittantly until 6. By 6:30 it was clear and warm, and I was walking the dog.

Some tornado video over Yukon, OK

the steadycam was working overtime

That's really the one that went across Norman, south of the NWS. The pilot of the Helo was getting a serious shake to his voice as he reported the influx yanking him around pretty hard. In one section of the feed, you can hear him in the background saying he thought it had him for a minute. Then the weather guy warned him he had a hot mike.

This one really got me worried. If the guy I rent the Cherokee from lets me take it up there, I will be tying it down. I would think 70mph wind and softball size hail might not be good for the plane...

Where did you hear that? I listened to a few clips and I didn't hear any audio.

While I was sitting in my living room, real time. The weather guy had switched away from the helo pilot, and was trying to get another reporter on the phone.

We don't get that very often. Depending on the airport, you can gt hanger space as well. Where and when were you heading this way?

pwa and such are usually shy of affordable space, but Page, El Reno, and Sundance all have fairly available space should it get to it. Depends on where you plan on staying while in town.

I will be on NW OKC over by Oklahoma City University. How are their rates around there?

Right around the corner from where I work. Wiley Post is the closest, and probably the highest priced. 5 miles further to Sundance (HSD) Better prices. A few of the guys in the flying club stop there to fill up, then hop over to PWA to park. My next door neighbor parks his planes at Myrick, 10 mile north of OCC on I-35. It's a private, grass strip, but there might be space there (no fuel) I can ask if you want.

Let's not worry about it now. I'm still talking to my guy to make sure he will let me take it. I appreciate the offer though, and might be taking you up on it pretty soon.
