Top Gun 2

Saw it yesterday. It felt like time spent catching up with some old friends. Overall I liked it and the flying scenes were good anything these days that isn't CGI (Cartoon) is good.

A little concerned about South Lake Tahoe Airport, the Navy Tomahawked it ;)

That’s what it looked like for a split second overview shot, the lake in the background gave it away

Took my son and his posse to see it yesterday... they liked it... flying scenes were good... Jennifer Connolly is ageing well... I thought that is was a class act for Tom Cruise to come on at the beginning for the film to thank everyone for coming..

Fun afternoon

At around 28:00 into it, he gives some interesting insight in how they filmed the F-18 scenes.

This parody made me asked myself, "Flying single engine prop for 20 years. Yet you keep on pushing it. Why is that?"

Overall I have enjoyed Tom Cruise movies.
Will watch this latest one when it comes out on TV.

Some good, some lame. The Firm was pretty good, but Days of Thunder was extremely hokey.

Overall I don’t think he’s ever topped Risky Business.

Was intending to hit the theater tonight but seats look pretty terrible. Watched the original last as a warm up. A lot more sweating than I remembered :)

Went with the wife this afternoon to see it. Definitely lived up to the original and was likely much better from a technical flying aspect. Obviously some liberties taken with the cinematography (like surviving a Mach10 aircraft coming from together) but overall the flying scenes were impressive. I loved a lot of the little throwbacks to the original movie. Worth seeing in the theaters.

Just saw movie, I'd recommend.
Love them airplanes!

It was good. Theater too loud.
It was to help all the old geezers who come to the movie. Seriously, I don't think I saw anyone under 60 at the showing I went to.

I've got some hearing loss, but I had to tear up a kleenex for temporary ear plugs. The headrest of the seat was even rattling, at some points.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around a fast food or chain burger that's any good at all. I'm not aware of any of them that are clean enough to serve them rare.

As far as TC goes, I thought he was pretty good in the South Park episode. :)

You're not far from actual truth. There was a TLAM test shot that arrived just a bit to the east, in the Fallon Range Training Complex. I know because I have booped the remains of the nosecone of that missile/whatever it is. It was planned, mind you, but still kind of crazy to think about.

I also am a never go to the theater kind of guy. Yet last week I went to see Ford vs Ferrari. And I'm definitely going to see TG-M.
I LOVED Ford vs Ferrari. Christian Bales was amazing in that movie. Can't wait to see this one, as many of my pilot friends who have seen it loved it. We're going today.

I’m hearing a lot of people saying it’s better than the original. Even the best movie they’ve ever seen. Come on, that’s like saying Jaws 2 is better than the original. While I enjoyed it and the in the cockpit stuff was amazing, it’ll never be a classic, quotable movie like the first one. There’s a lot of unrealistic CGI in this one as well.

Without giving away too much, Mover and Gonky do a good review on it.

It’s a good movie. First one I’ve seen in a couple of years, so I’m a hard sell. It’s better than the original in some ways, but overall I’m not sure it’s possible to beat the feeling of the original. You just can’t reproduce it. But I thought they did it justice.

I agree, and I try not to favor the original just because of nostalgia. It was a solid sequel. If you had to do a sequel on a classic like this, it’s about the best they could do. Unlike the original though, I doubt I’ll buy it on Blu-ray and watch it from time to time.

I thought they did both a good job of making it more realistic in a lot of ways, and at the same time leaving in a lot of ridiculous stuff too, which frankly is part of the charm IMO.

One thing I did notice and chuckle at was the PC, in the box vs the cockpit, outside from that, just a good fun movie.

It was so emotional that you cried?
I laughed, I cried, I kissed twenty bucks goodbye... :)

Good movie, really about the same as the original. Enjoyed it, but I'm able to suspend disbelief more than most. OLD crowd there, though.

The INTERESTING thing about it is that the big mission was a direct copy of the climactic battle in the first Star Wars movie. Having to come in low following a deep trench, dodging anti-aircraft fire (albeit in Maverick *after* they leave the trench), fighters waiting above, having to fling their ordinance into a tiny hole to explode underground. *No American Pilot* would view such a mission WITHOUT making a Star Wars joke. I was DEARLY hoping one of the pilots would say, "I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than two meters...."

But of course, we all know that "Star Wars" ripped off "633 Squadron," so at least the trope has returned to that of aviation. Here's a video someone did using the video from "633 Squadron" with the audio from "Star Wars". Hopefully, someone will do a similar "633 Squadron" - "Top Gun: Maverick" mashup.

The SAM scene was reminiscent of Behind Enemy Lines. Same type of intensity only problem is, spewing flares like it’s the 4th of July won’t do anything against S-125 SAMs. ;)

While I love anything plane related, I don’t want any of my $$ going to Scientology

If cruise is dumb enough to flush his money, what's it to me?

Not a bad theme sound ether, especially with the V12 goodness at the end on a good sound system.

Where's the cobbled-together DC-3 (with some "special modifications") piloted by a smuggler and his furry friend that flies in towards the end?

I just saw the movie and loved it. I think it's as good as the original. And there is at least one very quotable line in it: "You told me not to think!" If you haven't seen it, you'll know what I mean when you do. The reaction was priceless.

Ok, I broke down & will go today, 1:00 for $6.99. With everyone seeing it I feel it’s time. I’ve never seen so many vehicles in the lot, driving by.

Saw it at the drive in this weekend. I’ll agree that it was a decent movie as a sequel. If someone went to see it that never saw the original I’m not sure they would enjoy it though.

It was good, a little long. A lot of references to the first movie. The last dog fighting scene was good. It had my favorite warbird jet ever, the F-14 Tomcat and he swept the wings a few times, so I was a happy boy.
