I already made enough money this year so I don't have to work until 2022.

A.K.A. holiday vacations.

Next week is pretty much dead, distributors are close, buildings are close or people don't want to see you in their houses, etc. I usually take the family a few days for a change of scenery.

Not a plane owner yet but it is in the bucket list. Heck not a license pilot yet but hopefully I'll change that situation early 2022.

My old job I got the week between Xmas and New Years off paid as Xmas bonus.

My old job I got the week between Christmas and New Year's off unpaid...I guess as a "non-bonus"?? Not having to work that week was so nice, though, so I guess it was one of those "intangible" bonuses. :)

Did they automatically deduct floating holidays and/or vacation days during that time? That seems to be the norm around here regarding shutdowns.

We got it off on my old job, too, but we gave up several standard holidays in return. Didn't get Veteran's Day, President's Day, MLK Day, etc. off. Company was primarily a manufacturer, and if a lot of people took time off themselves, production would suffer. Made sense to just send everyone home together.

Depending on the day of the week Christmas was on, we could take two or three days of vacation and get the full two weeks off.

One of the biggest things to get used to when I retired was the "Endless Summer" effect. When I was working, I'd go into the two-week holiday break with enthusiasm, but it was nearly painful that last Sunday when I had to go back the next day. Bit of a shock when that "last day" never arrives....

My old job was a great one . Week off for Thanksgiving , Week off for Christmas , Week off for Easter , 3 months off in the Summer .All with pay.
Quit that job to gamble full time . Dumbest thing I ever did.

We had no "government holidays" off - we had unpaid time off the week of 4th of July in the summer and the week after Christmas, and that was it. I don't know about the salaried teachers, but I was just an hourly employee and didn't have any PTO, so I couldn't have any of that stolen. :) It was a childcare center, so I think it was both to give the staff a break and to allow the directors some training time.
