Left Vegas this AM, trip got caught up in the Presidential TFR, and had to leave earlier than planned, pain in the butt. There is a TFR over Vegas for the next 3 days.
Also, Colorado Springs, Phoenix and 3 in SO. Cal.

Once they get down to just 2 candidates, there will be 4, 2 for presidential candidates and 2 for VPs. Thankfully we don’t have more major political parties, I assume the other parties (libertarian, socialist, etc) do not qualify for SS protection.

The whole idea of a TFR is nothing but a security theatre and a status symbol more suited for a Roman emperor rather than a CEO of a federal government of a republic.
This is a fresh insight.

I think they're excessive too. Too bad we mere mortals don't have any say in the matter.

I’ve had luck flying through some of those TFR’s by calling ATC ahead of time and coordinating. Not sure if that’s standard or not?

You can get through the outer ring with a squawk code if you're on frequency. Can't go through the inner ring. You can take off from the outer ring if you're on a flight plan and get a squawk code. I live in the capital of a swing state. Candidates of all stripes love this place. I deal with this all the time, though not as much as those poor schlubs near Mara Lago.

Let's ignore Presidential and VIP TFRs for a moment.
Stadium TFR:
Generally, restrictions issued under section 91.145 encompass the minimum airspace needed for the management of aircraft operations near the event. For aerial demonstrations, the TFR will normally be limited to a five NM radius up to an altitude of 17,000 feet mean sea level (or 13,000 feet AGL for parachute demonstrations). For sporting events, the TFR will normally be limited to a three NM radius and 2,500 feet AGL. (taken fromhttps://www.faa.gov/pilots/safety/notams_tfr/media/tfrweb.pdf)
So, the TFR is from ground level to 2,500', 13,000', 17,000' respectively.
Mitchie Stadium, West Point is at 325' MSL.
Can I legally fly up or down the Hudson River under the TFR?

Back to the VIP/Presidential TFR.
Legally fly under?

Heck if you’re talking to ATC they’ll let you cut into the Yankee TFR and just ask you don’t directly overtly the stadium.

Also funny that a event with 3,000+ citizens in a VERY small space gets a smaller TFR than one government worker

I haven't thought it through in great depth, but seems to me that perhaps even a wider ring requiring some level of squawking and talking, maybe even some sort of pre cert background check, etc... is reasonable in this day...but I think it's ridiculous to shut down the airspace...especially when it affects local airport business, etc..

Almost every time I see something bout these TFR's I'm reminded of something I read a long time ago...I might have it wrong, and I don't recall fore sure details or who (President Reagan or one of the President Bush's maybe) that used to typically go to Camp David rather than going home for holidays so that more of the security and staff and support folks could be home with their own families...lower impact to others. THAT just seems like the right thing to do.

When I'm in the Cub, I don't talk to ATC unless I'm landing at a Class "D", (twice in 5 years?)
Up and down the river, I'm usually at 50 to 100 feet.

You talking the Hudson or east river?
Lots of low level traffic on that river, for sure a time to be on freq and report position (intrepid 500 south bound) etc

Hudson, north of the Bear Mountain Bridge. Usually I don't go south of the Bear Mountain unless I'm flying the Exclusion Zone. When I do I'm positively chatty.
