Tony! Glider through New York City!

I'm sure the off-airport landing was the direct (and predictable!) result of not filing a flight plan.

Yep. And you don't hear them getting ATC clearance.

We might suspect the video is phony since nobody stole the plane.

If they'd have been using one of my designs the video wouldn't fit on youtube.

I was thinking the same thing. I know some very awesome designs, I can get at least 10 seconds hand launching from ground level with some of them.

Someone should drop one from 10k or something out of a plane, and follow it.

Ken Blackburn (a really nice guy, pilot, and EAA member) holds the world record at 27.6 seconds. Maybe I'll beat it some day, but I think I'll have to grow an arm first.

When I was kid when we needed open space we used to play in the plaza front of the nearby Wrigley Field box office.

We got these Wacky foam gliders from the drug store. On one launch of mine, it oriented itself into the wind and climbed, and climbed as the wind came up. It crossed the traffic on Addison Street in a relative hover and landed across the street barely 100 feet forward after a flight of over a minute. All we could say was, "DID YOU YOU SEE THAT!!!!???" Good times. Being that I still remember that....

I had (perhaps still have?) the time aloft record for our college dorm- a little over 60 seconds from a 6th floor window with a design that was all wing. My next door neighbor had the distance record with a more traditional design.
