The turn Nick's "I Am a North Carolinan now" thread took reminded me to cue this one up onto the iPod. It's a little ditty about two guys named Jeremiah Dixon and Charles Mason...

Very nice. Mark Knopfler was the lead singer and guitarist for Dire Straits.

Yes he was.

When I was in high school, "Money for Nothing" was, of course, wildly popular. My friend, who was one of the first among us to have a CD player, ran out and bought Brothers In Arms, especially because it was the first one we had seen that was stamped DDD (all digital recording, mixing, and mastering). It is, to this day, required owning IMO.

He came back the next day and told us, "that band is kind of country."

The song Money for Nothing is not to be played in Canada since it has been labeled as a form of hate speech or something like that.

Their brains froze too many times

NSFW or if you are in Canada, which I'm not at this moment.

I had this album (when they were called albums).

Dire Straits/Knopfler = superb.

They'd qualify for desert island. At least for me.

PS - when I was a kid, I thought it was "get your money for nothing, your checks for free."

It made sense to a 5-yo. I mean, of course if your money costs you nothing, your checks will be free, too. Ruined it when I figured it out 20+ years later.

Bingo.

I don't get into "arguments" with people about music anymore, because I've decided "the best" music is that which you listened to in high school (and maybe college). Anything else is crap.

Now get off my lawn!!! :incazzato::D

Agreed, and that's what's on my iPod.

Had a major laugh at myself when I heard something played by nearby young ones and actually said, "Boy, that music is too lound and I don't understand it!".

OMG! I'm chanellening my Dad!
