To my gay friends

This is the issue EXACTLY!

Everyone is focused on the ends justifying the means. We are losing sight of the fact that our entire system of governance, the Constitutional Republic, has been substantially eroded during the past 80 years or so and is is all being done by 9 unelected political appointees that are accountable to no one.

Regardless of your position on the issue of gay marriage, this decision was another brick that has been removed from the foundation of our republic.

That too.

Exactly, how can someone be so crass to mention the mere defense of one's own life and that of their family from violent deadly assault as compared to the right of a homosexual to have the cake, flowers and venue of their choosing. Why can't people keep their attention on what's really important?!?

yup....tolerance is a wonderful thingy. :goofy::yes:

The government has no business sanctioning any personal relationships. There should not be such thing as legal marriage.

Everything should be a civil union and you should be able to enter that agreement with your lover, neighbor, plumber or a half dozen Mormon chicks and marriage should be only a sacrament like baptism or bar mitzvah.

So basically, I am not recognizing or respecting gay marriage until polygamists are afforded their civil rights.

Ah, but people are fickle and many relationships (straight or homosexual) don't last. Lawyers inevitably get involved and consequently the government must also.

This married (36 years - 1979 - 2015) gay guy had one of his best days ever yesterday. Though our marriage is already legal in CA, we rejoice for our brothers and sisters who weren't so lucky until yesterday.

In an ironic twist, I was in a cab in Bangalore, India, when I got the great news. Gay rights were recenty passed and then repealed here. Currently, being gay carries a life sentence. Eventually in will change here too.

I am out to all of my pilot friends, family, and at work. They all find a way to judge me by my character, flaws and all. Now I'm out at POA too!

For those pilots who face prejudice on the job, or just need the support of other airline captains, controllers, and GA pilots, click on over to the huge and growing NGPA: National Gay Pilots Association (http://www.ngpa.org/), where you'll find a wonderful group, recruiting by the major airlines, and a whole lot of fun (straights welcome too!).

That's silly IMO. Would you want to be an employee with shared medical expenses for eight women pregnant at once? That's a non religious, practical way to look at it.

I do believe the government part is civil marriage, with all the rights.
It's the religion that makes it a marriage. YMMV.

The courts don't need marriage to divide property.

I have no issue with you. I have an issue with the issue.

I have no issue with you. I have an issue with the issue.

Perhaps you'd withdraw your issue with the issue if you had lived it.

And perhaps also, the post above may be correct. It may no longer be an issue except at the fringe. Whatever one might think, the issue has now been settled permanently, and we can move on.

If you can't afford to pay for 8 women to be pregnant out of your own pocket, maybe you shouldn't be putting yourself in that situation. My though process is you should be able to pay for everything you make a choice to do without deductions/insurance, etc.

ya, and there isn't quite a large segment of the population that specifically goes against everything you just said...........and we end up paying for it. and yes, I'm being sarcastic. and don't think I didn't notice ur avatar, you put some effort into that one!

Damn.... Think we agree.

Fantastic! It's a time for celebration for so many.

People who by birth 'belong' often don't get it what it's like to live otherwise. The country continues to live up to its great promise.

I don't know what being Gay is all about, I don't know if it is a gift from God or the Devil, I don't really care! Because I still Believe that God will be the ultimate Judge.

Honest question: it is drummed into hetero skulls that two gay people getting married doesn't have effect on their putative hetero marriage. If that is true, and thus every marriage is an island, why would any other pair of gay people getting married anywhere else have any effect on you or your relationship? In short, exactly why was it "one of [your] best days ever?"

And now the Supremes have trampled the constitution and States rights again.

I don't care either way about gay marriage, BUT, as a Federation of States, this issue should of been left to each state and the people of that state. If you live in a state that doesn't recognize gay marriage, then move to one that does.

The federal government had no business weighing in on this issue.

You can not put "gay rights" on the same moral equivalency as "slavery". :mad2:

Forced labor, beatings on the one hand -- flowers, cakes and catering halls on the other. Its all the same in a morally relative world. :rolleyes2:

The 2nd has been settled since the inception of the country, but it doesn't stop folks from trying to find ways to stop it. :dunno:

And now that the sc makes the rules all bets are off. Suckers.

I'm an alcoholic. I don't expect anyone to legislate legitimacy to my condition. I just expect fair treatment as an individual.

Good. Now you are allowed to marry the one you love, too.

Forced acceptance has already begun. Just look at the laundry lists of lawsuits against bakers, florist and photographers who have declined to participate in the same sex weddings.

Do you have a link to that imaginary laundry list?

I am sure it is length.y.....

One would be a mushroom not to know its true.

If I said we live on planet Earth would you ask for a link to prove it?

I could care less what gays do behind closed doors, nor if they want to get married.

I simply do not agree with it and I do not care to see gays pressing the issues on all of the vulnerable children . Can you gays now stop your marches and rally's and go back to doing what you do behind closed doors without all the influence on my children whom I would prefer to grow up normal, marry and have children of their own.

My guess is that your answer is "NO", and I also assume you will be fighting for even more. Your community has proven to be about more than just gay rights and we all know you wont ever be happy unless you are disturbing the lives of those that are not gay.

You do realize that your kids have the same probability of being gay if they don't see any Pride parades or if you take them to see the parade.

You can pretend gays don't exist, but it doesn't change the statistics about your kid, and every other kid.

If it is "true", why not share the link? Fox News sometimes repeats a false anecdote and runs with it.

There is not a long laundry list.

Preface: I have friends that are gay and I am not a homophobe. But I'm not going to pretend it's normal either. What people do behind closed doors is generally none of my business.

But here's my thing, both sides miss the boat on this issue. Marriage isn't about love. Nobody needs a certificate for that. It's all about the protection of children. Period. It's a legal contract with a specific purpose. And by the way I think it's the State's right to get involved with the process to the extent that they are expected to support children that are not financially supported by their parents (fathers in particular.) That includes the right to force common law marriage and corresponding responsibilities to couples that produce children out of wedlock.

This is an issue that doesn't exist on the gay side. Yes I am aware there are gay couples that do care for children, but a gay union in itself does not create a child, and those that have been allowed to adopt presumably had demonstrated the financial ability to do so.

Gay people can and always have been able to form civil partnerships that allow the rights of survivorship over money and property. It's called a will. I agree with Climbnsink that the only victory that has been scored here is further erosion of the nuclear family in support of greater governmental control over our individual lives. That might sound contradictory to my first statement regarding the States' involvement in marriage, but it's not really, as it is (was at least) the status quo. This affects all of us, including gay people, equally. This is not a victory for gay people or moderately liberal people. This is a victory for Marxists.

Marriage has nothing to do with having children.

The States will issue licenses to 80 year old women.
