I have a 170b and a MX 12
I know they are old as heck. I sold my Grumman and I want to get them serviced before I hand the plane over to the buyer. I just want it to be right.

about 25% of the time, I turn them on and they are stuck on a frequency. I can twist the knobs all day either direction and they will just stick on the same frequency or maybe move up or down 1 digit.

Anyone have this issue before?
I am thinking I have to remove them and send them in.
I may get an estimate to have them repaired and offer the buyer that much toward fixing them or replacing them. I don't want to delay the process but I also don't want him frustrated that the radios periodically get stuck.

If you can pull the knobs off and spray plastic-safe electronic contact cleaner and turn knobs, and also spray under the buttons, might be able to improve current function. That’s just a generic fix for electronics and not for these specific radios, so proceed with caution.

pull the radio….remove the knobs and also the cover or bottomof the radio…easy to removethe screws. hit everything with contact cleaner. put it back together, put back in the airplane. be amazed how much things will improve.

don’t ask.
