I've had a hotmail account for almost 10 years now. Recently, they told me that i have to give them my phone number or an altenate email account in order to "improve security". :rolleyes2: Anyways, I'd just let the account go except I have some important stuff in that account I'd like to keep. I'm sure as hell not about to give msn my cell phone number.

Does anyone know of an alternate, free email service that doesn't have any requirements like this, that hotmail will accept as an alternate email address??

Excite? Yahoo? I've had both for over ten years and use them as my throwaway email addresses.

They bugged me about that as well. I kept ignoring them. Eventually they stopped trying.

Of course, Hotmail IS my throwaway account. It's the address I give when I have to provide an email address in order to access something, like forums. I access it from time to time just to delete everything.

So give them a phone number from an ad in the newspaper. -Skip

I'm locked out of my account now untill I give them an alternate or my phone number.

Apparently they have to send you a cos in either an email or text to keep your account active.

Just another way for Corporate America to spy on you.

Interesting. I never got locked out. I guess get a yahoo account and use that as a spam account, like I do with the hotmail.

Get a Google Voice number.
This.

I have a skype number I use for people/companies that I don't want to bother me.

edit: or just create a google email account. Let one throwaway email shake hands with another throwaway email.

Google really, really wants all of your personal information, too. Try Hushmail.

So, open a throw-away yahoo or gmail account and give it to them. Problem solved.

This is where mailinator is really handy...it's not really an e-mail, it's a drop box for whatever you want to use.

Just make up an address whenever you need it, go to the website to get whatever activation code they send and you're done.

@yopmail.com is the same and is great if you're looking for a throw-away account. Hotmail & Yahoo accounts last a long time and are not really throw-aways...

Open another bull**** address and give each to the other.

Oh puhleeeeeze. They just don't want to process your password reset requests, that's all.

I never sent a password reset request. They simply demanded information that they didn't need.

How about getting your facts straight before you pretend to know something.
