This guy needs to go buy a lottery ticket!

From the article: "I was quite surprised really because obviously I wouldn't take off even on a 10-minute flight if I didn't think I'd have enough fuel. But I suspected that's what it was, just the way the engine stopped dead."

He took off without knowing how much fuel he had on board. When the engine quit, he "suspected" fuel might be the problem. The news people are gushing over him, but I wonder what they'd have said if he had plowed into a tree instead of landing on a sandbar.

Probably celebrated the victory before flying home with an oil can of Fosters.
Could have used some flaps on the take off ‘aye mate?’

He used all his luck with that takeoff. You spoze he will have it completely disasssembled to remove all the salt or just wait until parts start falling off?

Im sure he'll take every bit as much care as he took in his preflight.

When he hits that big bump though....

Yeah, he's gonna wonder about where that wrinkle in the firewall came from.

Is it me/visual effect, or was the prop still spinning there at the end?

I had the same thought at first, but the first part of the video isn't the landing. It's either an aborted takeoff attempt in the other direction, or a comically fast off-road back taxi .

Nah, this is New Zealand, kiwis don't drink that crappy Aussie beer.
