Thinking about a new boat - what do you think about this one?

I'm thinking it probably won't work, only because I don't think one can easily troll with salmon rigs off the aft deck...

Wow. If I was on that aft deck, as pictured, I wouldn't have any interest in trolling for salmon.

Quite a boat, that.

I know right where those photos were taken and have been there!

That is the isle of Capri just off the coast of Italy near Naples, Sorrento, and the Almalfi coast. Capri was the home of the future Roman emperor Caligula who si the one that may have heard about his famous debauches.

Nice boat. A bit shabby for that region though. ;)

A little bit industrial for my taste - but very cool, nonetheless!

sporting somewhat of a "stealth" look tho - I wonder if it's just design or real function?

Why not? The front and side decks were designed by a Transformers fan - why not the aft deck, too?

You could probably talk Henning into driving it around for you.

Joe

It's ok. Nothing too great. I'd rather have something with wings. :)

Its a little minimalist for me. Its missing the Bofors guns, several dual Ma Dueces, that anti tank gun Kennedy lashed to his boat and the torpedo tubes. But, these can all be retrofitted.

The bow on shot reminded me of an Elco also.

I expected a James Bond villian to appear in one of the slides...

I dig it.

Anthony, you must have missed that pair of MaDeuces on the bow. The lower part of the turret was covered in white Lycra. A bow shot would have shown them off to better effect.:D

I Like it but to fancy for me. here is more my speed.
and BTW it's for sale ,i want a 30 Ft. Center consule now

They did a bit about that boat on Top Gear on the BBC. Then they got off the boat and drove the Pagani Zonda. And then I cried a little.

It's pretty much just design. I've been aboard her, I wasn't real fond. Wally does very strange designs. They look kinda neat, and go pretty fast, but require a lot of power, and don't ride very well at displacement speeds.

Normally that boat will cruise with guests aboard in the 20-30 kt range at 140-300gph range, and will reposition at 12-14 kts on around 45-60 gph. She may do bursts of speed at 60, but she has to have pretty flat sees, and she has about a 10% duty cycle at those RPMs and will eat a set of cranks in under 400hrs at those powers. The continuous duty rating of the engines will get it probably 32 kts.

edit. I see they changed up the power to 2 370hp deisels for normal use, and three turbines for making speed. That's the best way. So basically, the boat goes 12 kts using 30gph most of the time, and rides like crap doing it.

If ya got the money the boat, why not just use gas turbines?

They are not efficient to use at low speeds. The best way to do this type of a boat is to have 2 diesels with either CP(Controlable Pitch) props or just pumps, and a turbine on centerline with an Arneson or other surface piercing prop drive system.

I was wondering if any of the bigger vessels used variable pitch. It would seem to make sense. How common is that? DO the big multi-ton ocean ships do that too?

A few of the big ships will, but not that many as it doesn't have a lot of benefit to them as they basically operate at one speed, so a fixed propellor is just fine for that. The ones that use them typically use them instead of having to reverse the engines or have reversing gear or a clutch, or when operating in ports and with cargos where shutting down the engine and restarting it in opposite rotation is not acceptable by regulation. Where you find the greatest use of CP props is in working vessels that operate at different speeds and loads. Large fishing trawlers are an excellent example, they have to be able to make maximum useage of their horsepower at low speed when dragging, and also be able to make speed efficiently when running light either to the fishing grounds or back into port. Not many yachts use them, although all my designs incorporate them since the reality is that when owners or charter parties are onboard, they tend to request speed, and when being repositioned, especially between the Med and Carib seasons, they have to operate efficiently at 11-12kts.

I noticed that weapon, but I was thinking more torpedoes than .50 cals.

:D
