the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

My bestie got married Saturday, a nice casual little wedding, nothing fancy, or hundreds of people. Then spent a while Sunday at the graveyard, cleaning up my dad's spot, and putting flowers on it. Somehow his flat grave marker got broken, so today I ordered him a fancy headstone.
I was very blessed to have had such a wonderful father, he was a great man, and I miss him dearly.
 
I've done only one trip in the last 60 days due to being down for backordered gear parts. I'm missing prime flying season.
 
I was planning to go flying yesterday evening but after a long and complicated day at work with some extra hours on the road I felt a little fatigued and decided not to go up.

Making some guacamole before dinner, I reached for the cilantro, but somehow grabbed the dill and added way too much of it before I noticed what it was.

As I tasted the slightly odd tasting guac, it occurred to me: the risk of making a stupid mistake was the very reason I didn't go to the airport.

So I cracked open a hazy IPA to reward myself for good risk management. :cheers:

Yes we still ate the guac. If my wife thought it had a weird taste, she never said anything about it. :rofl:

That is what I was afraid of....

My future self calling me to tell me that I didn't amount to jack squat and what it is like eating a steady diet of government cheese and doing a lot of doobie rolling while living in a van down by the river...

Today is my first day flying in an airliner in a while. I don't even know what to do - are masks still required? I have my stupid quart size bag with liquid in it.

I've had to earmark some XC budget for my multi, so I'm flying commercial on this trip. GA has totally spoiled me.

There isn't a federal mask requirement anymore, so you shouldn't need one.

US based carriers, no, EU, yes, for masks. Get precheck and you can keep your shoes on. Turns out it is one quart bag of liquids, per carry on bag.

Scotch and a pipe for me, but I'm holding off for now. I finished the condition inspection on the Screamin' Canary today, and got in a 35 minute test flight before I decided that I really wasn't in the mood to play chicken with a thunderstorm moving in. I''m hoping things clear up enough later on to go fly again, if the stupid GPS ever finishes updating.

I love the iFly 740, but it does take for........ev.......er to download updates. It's been over 2 hours already and it's only at 93%. I'm just glad I didn't decide to do it at the hangar using my phone as a hotspot.

Are you updating the entire database? I usually only update the stuff I think I will need.

It hasn’t been updated since April or so. All the sectionals weren’t expired, plus there was a software update. In general though, it is slow as molasses in winter updating no matter what.

Can't argue that. I did an entire data upload once. It was on overnight. No idea how long it took. In contrast the updates on my iPhone app seem to get done faster.
 
Took wife on lunch date to favorite grass strip south of Atlanta Bravo. Had some nice acrobatic planes flying around. Do love being able to file IFR and go direct, straight through Bravo right over ATL north to south. Cuts the trip in half vs flying around Bravo.

Meh. Rough engine and loss of power about 700-800 AGL or so on climb out. Took a couple seconds to evaluate a turn back… not a pretty option, with a 10g20 quartering tailwind. A couple more seconds to remind myself to get the nose down and FLY THE DAMN PLANE. Nursed it around a close in downwind and 180 to land. All’s well that ends well. Right now I’m nursing a Manhattan, tomorrow I’ll test my theory that it’s yet another case of sunk Bing carburetor floats.
 
Glad you brought it in OK and walked away. What kind of whiskey?
