Pre-takeoff checklist
What is strongest tailwind you've ever encountered when on a flight? For me, it was on a trip from Slidell, Louisiana to Tifton, Georgia. At 9,500 feet, I averaged a groundspeed of 160 kts in a Cessna 172 and there was one point north of Birmingham, it got over 170!! Gotta love the jet stream.
The only sad thing is that on the way there, the average speed was 80-85 kts. It took us 4.7 hours to get there, and only 2.4 hours to get back, and it would have took even less, but I stopped and did a touch-and-go at two nearby airports so that it would count as my long cross-country required for the Commercial rating (I was solo on the way back).
