For those of you who may or may know someone that plans to fly into Tucson International this weekend, the TFR drawn isn't correct. Whoever draws that is either lazy or isn't getting the correct information. The TFR is for the air show and as drawn, includes KTUS's airspace. This is incorrect as it only includes the airspace around Davis Monthan AFB and a small sliver of adjacent airspace which belongs to KTUS. I explain this because two weeks ago when they were certifying the war birds, the same TFR was depicted on charts and I got no less than 7 calls (forwarded anonymously to the Davis Monthan tower number) asking if they can fly into Tucson.

This has been a public service announcement courtesy of your friendly neighborhood controller.

About 2 years ago I was flying into an airport that had an airshow TFR adjacent to it... not directly over it but very close scheduled to go active the next day. On my way in the controller advised me that it was actually active that day, the date just hadn't been correctly published. Stuff like that just makes you feel warm and fuzzy doesn't it?

Good reason to always use flight following I guess.

Damn. And I thought my instructor was being anal-retentive for calling Flight Service prior to any XC. Guess he was onto something.
