That's a good one. I love the double letter taxiway names, no chance of confusion there. I'll never forget the first time I got one of those at LGA and the blank stare I gave the captain when I had to read it back. :hairraise:
 
yikes! I like that guy, he's funny.
There's another guy up there I enjoy listening to. I think his name is John but I'm not certain. He keeps things pretty light. You've got to with all those planes sitting in line, waiting for departure. I pretty much just listen to the tower frequency.
 
seems like the pilots knew what was going on better than the controller.
 
Classic example of the controller getting excessively focused on history and not enough on current and future -- "Now I'm all screwed up" says it all. Unfortunately the flow doesn't stop while he tries to play catch-up ball. The biggest problem I see is that he can't tell which Jet Blue is which -- all A320's look the same. Maybe they need signboards on the roof with the flight number on them.
 
You know, I have to wonder....would things have worked out smoother by not having a ground controller, and leaving the pilots to taxi themselves, like we do at non-towered airports?

I really never understood the point behind ground control. We're courteous as a whole, and we're smart about not crossing a runway with anyone on short final....

Can someone explain which part I'm missing, because I know there's gotta be a big one.

Just imagine having as many as fifty planes in line for departure with wait times being upward of ninety minutes. Then, add in about as many arrivals which also have to wait for gates.

JFK was trying to limit operations to 80 per hour. I don't know if that actually happen.
 
The first time you get 2 heavies beak to beak on a taxiway with no escape you will be wishing you had ground to blame, or to not get you in that position to begin with.

You need ground control because you have idiots in charge of designing airports.
 
I heard that one about a year ago, I love the line (to the Thai A340-600), "You can't do anything in that plane of yours!"
