The founder of the Experimental Aircraft Association has passed away from cancer at the age of 91. Story.

Gone west. One of a kind, a special man who did a lot of good for the little guy in aviation.

Always enjoyed watching him ride around in his vw at OSH.he always loved the little guy and experimental aircraft.RIP

Very sad...

But what a great life! I'm glad he could be surrounded by family and friends at the end, and had ample recognition for his contributions while he was still with us.

No matter what you fly, Paul Poberzny has had an impact on you, whether it was directly, through his pioneering work getting homebuilts their own category, or indirectly, through the pressure brought on certificated aircraft manufacturers by innovations in experimentals.

In 2008, I spent an hour listening to Paul tell stories while he was perched on his 3-wheeled Harley at Antique Airfield (Blakesburg, IA), whilst attending the AAA fly-in. He was a charter member (Antique Aircraft Association started the same year as EAA), and rarely missed a year.

Quite a guy. Without him, Oshkosh would never have come to be. We owe him a great debt of gratitude. Blue skies, Mr. Poberezny.
