Quick question regarding insurance. Little background, just got my PPL, and am potentially going to be flying friends airplanes. Ideally I want to be named pilot with waiver of subrogation. I meet the owners open pilot warranty so I was wondering if getting non owned policy though the same company would eliminate the risk of subrogation as they would be subrogation themselves essentially. Not sure just want to see what POA has for advice. Thanks!!

Practical question. Have you looked at the premiums for hull coverage for non-owned aircraft insurance? If you are thinking “cover the deductible,” no big deal, except you are unprotected for any excess. But if you are thinking “total the airplane,” I think you’ll find it more expensive than an owner policy.

If you are getting regular access, you want to at least be named in the owner’s policy.

get named on the policy. . . it will prevent any future potential conflicts and be cheaper than you getting a non-owned policy.
