Stolen King Air still flying as of 8:38am on Sat (9-3-22)

It is hard enough to find ramp that can pass a drug screen, let alone a medical….

I was aimed at the fact that for all that is done to try and prevent such things, nothing will eliminate all the evil, weirdness, ugliness, & nastiness some folks bring into the world ...

Perhaps all the ramp rats, A&P mechanics, FBO managers, etc. should be required to have a current medical to prove their physical good health and mental stability ...

Far more efficient and accurate tools exist to assess "good health and mental stability" than an FAA medical. But since you raise the point, why shouldn't everyone be required to have an FAA medical ?

I
which is why I'm not seriously worried they'll make changes to hiring requirements for ramp/linepeople. It's already a failed proposition at 121 proximate airports, 91/135 ops aren't going to face much backlash over this. Considering the pay, even more of a non-starter. Not condoning taking a lax eye at mental health, but money talks at the end of the day.
I think they should just make the TSA work ramp. Might actually do something worthwhile for the first time.

because if a pilot has a serious medical emergency mid flight-he endangers passengers and folks on the ground.
If an A&P does, the only person endangered is himself.

Sadly, a kernel of truth. We should have revised passenger screening long ago. It’s a bad, expensive joke. Gazillions of man hours of lost time.

Including politicians that govern air policy. Mental stability, you know.

You suppose some Harvey Mushman-type personality patting you down when you walk out of the FBO to your plane will mitigate the non-existent airport security crisis ? Please don't give those folks any ideas.

We get the idea and general sentiment. But if an A&P forgets to wire tie the oil filter someone of us is going down.

That is just so wrong, seriously.

I equate threatening to fly a stolen king air into a walmart with walking in the front door pointing an AR-15 at the shoppers. I don't see a difference other than "oh neato an airplane"

No. You misunderstood. Not security. They pump gas, dump lavs and clean windows.

In both cases the person did not actually harm anyone. In the former, actual event, the person put the plane down hours afterwards. In your latter hypothetical, they could have had an unloaded AR-15, left the store and were then found at their house two hours later.

And in your world, justice would be to shoot them without a trial or even any investigation into the facts?

Okay, Mr. Putin.

But he is on the ground (U said Cops). Wishing for the death of another human being that is probably not a lawyer or politician, Is still messed up. Besides, who gives a crap about WalMart shoppers?

I mean, skyKing got a Q400 launched out of SeaTac single pilot in spite of all the self-important SIDA bullshee present at oNe tWenTy oNe ops airports. Not sure anything of consequence would come for these small fry 91/135 ops, as a result of one commandeered upsized Cessna 310, especially given 9/11 didn't even do it.

But Tupelo is an INTERNATIONAL airport. My cousin who lives a few miles west of there reminds me of this with mock glee. Apparently some pretty substantial $$ was spent on a "if you build it they will come" moment, followed by zero international flights.

I'm glad nobody got hurt, including the pilot. I'm sure it'll be lots of criminal charges, all of which we'll pay for, and none of which will help anyone.

I think most people hate Walmart, but violence isn't the answer. Maybe we can put up signs that say "Walmart is known to the state of ___ to cause stress, so we caution everyone to avoid being within a mile of one".

I can imagine how much hassle it would be to evacuate a Walmart. Some of the elderly folks shopping there can barely move. I am not making this up, was in a store yesterday. On my cane, lol.

Everybody hates Walmart until you need a case of water or some cheap flipflops.

Don’t think there were mentally ill folks in Wal Mart?

Walking into any public place with an AR-15, loaded or unloaded, seems like a real good way to get yourself killed ... especially if they are aiming it at folks.

If/when a gun is pointed at me I have no way to know if it's loaded or if the person has a mental illness or not. At that point I'm gonna attempt do what I need to do to keep me and those with me alive ...

Tupelo does technically receive international flights, just not of the passenger variety. There is a company there that scraps large aircraft, and I've tracked Lufthansa 747s flying into there to be broken up.

There are many international airports without scheduled international service. All it means is that customs is available.

Tulsa is an International Airport as well, but you won't find any International passenger flights there, lol. I think they may have some customs capabilities for cargo.

No customs here. They all clear elsewhere on the way in

Actually I was wrong, it is indeed the Tupelo Regional airport according to the FAA. Not sure where people got the International. That being said, they do have some large planes there.

Well, no. An A&P with OSA could forget an important step. In fact, similar things have happened. They discovered them by examining the wreckage, after the bodies were removed.

Had it not been for the ditch, that plane could have been salvageable.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. She’s totaled now though. It’s going to be a job getting that airplane removed from the field. I’ve picked up a few small airplanes from fields but never anything the size of a king air. Normally just take the wings off and trailer out the small ones.
We did have a jet commander that went off the end of a runway. Insurance company finally agreed to having the wings cut off of of that one!
