I am going to be starting my training for ppl in the next week or 2. I was wondering if anyone has old training books, etc that are taking up space? I can take them off your hands! Thought I would check and see if anyone had training material they want to get rid of before I buy new or off ebay.

Thanks,

B

First thing you can do is go on the FAA site and download the Airplane Flying Handbook. It is free and very useful. It is basically the basic knowledge book the FAA uses for the written test.

Are you looking to pass the writen,or learn the basics ? The faa has some good info ,for the ppl. Plenty of other books with the questions.

I'm in the Christmas spirit, PM me your address and I'll send you all the books I have, just passed my check ride yesterday. :D

If you have an ipad, pretty much everything that you need is available in ibooks. Also, if you intend to use Foreflight, its All available there as well for free after your subscription to foreflight. Get the trial subscription (free) and download them all for free. Otherwise, I agree with the FAA site suggestion as well. Good Luck with your training and let us know what questions you have!

I used the FAA airplane flying handbook and the FAA pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge. That's it. I supplemented with POA and Google. Oh, and I read Stick and Rudder, that makes a pretty good textbook too.

My CFI had me read these books twice. Once at the start to get loose grasp of things because it'll be a fire hose of information. Then read again just before the test after you've head some training, you'll understand better it after training and actually using the systems.

This way you'll spend less time with the CFI ($$) and you'll get three exposures to it with the hopes of understanding it, instead of rote memorization.

Good luck!

I agree. Also look at the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and the Weather document they have on the website.

As others have suggested, download the PDFs for Airplane Flying Handbook and Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge from FAA website. I found both very useful. I also liked "Stick and Rudder" which I ordered off Amazon.

That is some good info, I will check that out. Thanks!

Things change in the aviation world. To get current information... go to www.faa.gov as suggested. You won't get current information from hand-me-down books.

PM on the way.

All good advice. Stick and Rudder is very good, as is Your Pilot's License. Happy flying!

And for the OP, The current edition of "The Complete Private Pilot" is worth having in your library. (the link provided will take you to the publisher's website to order it)

And I hear the author is known to participate on a few obscure aviation discussion forums. Gives you a chance to ask questions.
