I started off my flying this year with a KingAir 200 flight from BCT to SUA last night. It's a pretty awesome airplane and I got to sit left seat. Canceled IFR about 20 miles out and did some steep turns and engine failure procedures. Pulled power on the right engine and feathered it. We were going to see if it'd stop without cutting off fuel, but it kept spinning for a while. Fun stuff! :yesnod:

How is everyone else kicking off their first flight of the year?

Best,
Jason

Wow. Sweet ride.

On 1/1 we departed into light snow and a low cloud deck at Lebanon, NH. Flew through a light rime layer at 8k, up to 10k over a beautiful stratus deck as far as the eye could see until NY Approach needed me lower before DPK. Plunged through the layer with only a trace buildup. Visibility at Wings was lousy - I was inside the final marker before I could see the airport, even though I was under the scattered layer. 2.2 hrs, 1.0 actual, RNAV24 approach.

A great way to start the new year.

(Although getting left-seat twin turbine time would have been even better!!)

I went flying of course! -7F!

Went to a year round flyin breakfast on Sat. and had a good hanger flying BS session with the boys. The air was so thick I think I could have gotten out and walked! :nono:

Good stuff.

Very cool!

Yesterday beat the snow taking off in Eagle to land in the snow at Bedford. Now I am waiting in the FBO in Sarasota for the pax who pushed back their departure an hour. I'm not used to working this much any more!

None yet....windy has heck and cold to boot for Atlanta. Just enjoying the cozy warm house and wifely companionship! :)

On 1/1 I flew 1.1 at night. A real scorcher of a moon and that combined with the lights of Denver, a bit of overcast, and the snow cover yielded very nice conditions. I got in 10 landings and even had to dodge a little traffic. A Tripacer arrived and a three-holer Falcon departed opposite direction. Busy-busy for FTG after dark. Anyway, I'm night current again.

The Falcon didn't show up on flight aware which I thought was curious. The Falcon pilot was a bit pushy about the weather computer. I just humored him and walked away reminding myself to never push someone off a computer when they are looking at the weather - just wait your turn. I left for a sandwich while waiting for true, FAA approved, night. It worked out nicely in the end - I was on final when the Falcon called ready to go so he had to wait on me in the end.

I regret to say, "The cookout has been postponed!"

However, I suspect that the total accumulation is less than imaged on my deck.
Up on this hill there's a fairly common and stiff breeze whistling across the property. It's time to fire up the Gravely tractor/snow blower.

Flying? That's for another day!

Heh, heh.....

Life has a way of evening stuff out!!!!!:D

None yet for me. Finished off 2009 with a great flight though. Cylinders are in for 09L, so hopefully she'll be flyable again in a few days.

Yesterday I flew in IMC, trace ice, and high winds (including high gusting crosswinds for landing), heavy turbulence. 210 kts out, 90 kts home. Man is that annoying. Good practice, though. Oh, and lest I forget:

Dear Jason,

You suck.

Best,
Ted :D

This is for Jason. Yesterday as a continuation of our travels we crossed the country again and unexpectedly ended up at your home airport!

Mari, did you have as much fun with the winds as I did? :)

Well, I could hear some squeals from the back as we bounced down final...

Yeah, similar experience to me. No squeals, but I think the airplane was thinking "I'm getting too old for this ****." That was work...

How long are you in HPN for?

Logged about .7 on Saturday. Fairly smooth, with only 4 hours of fuel in the plane and 1 pax it climbed over 1500fpm. to about 5000.

We will probably be leaving late morning today. We are empty going home, unless they find something else to add on. After yesterday I'm not making any predictions.

Just had a look at your track - you've been a busy girl! So much for going home... I'm waiting for you to divert mid-air. :)

I went flying the Sonex Saturday for a while .. until I could see the snow moving in from the SW. Started snowing just as I got it in the hangar.
Wish heater worked a little better .. I think it was about 5 degrees ..
at least warmer than the -7 when Larry left. haha.

My airplane is 300 miles away, and has the prop governor off of it. The prop. gov. is all overhauled and back. It will be a while before I can get back to eastern OR. and get the plane back together and do some flying. Meanwhile I am taking care of the wife and writing some of my stories for my forum friends to read. I miss my flying a lot and I can hardly wait to get back to it. I will need to do the annual on 54 November first thing I get back east.

First flight had to wait until the 3rd, thanks to our famous Northwest winter weather. Sunday brought calm winds and 5,000' ceilings so the C-172 emerged from her cocoon and flew for an hour, up to Yale Lake then following the Lewis and Columbia Rivers past Longview, then turned around and came home. :)

The Cub went in for annual just before Christmas, and will be down pending warranty work on the cylinders. #4 compression is down to 40, and the other three leak from the exhaust valves (150 hr TTAE). :mad2:

First flight will happen later this afternoon (evening) if the weather is better than the TAF (500 OC). Otherwise, some time next week...

TAF was close enough to reality that we cancelled. Next week at the earliest. Off in the pressurized aluminum mailing tubes tomorrow...
