STAR gone too far?

Who has ever called Obama Barry? Huh, I guess there’s a movie about him called that. News to me.
It was actually the name he used when younger. But approximately zero chance the STAR was named for that reason.

I get Texas may lean a bit right, but if I'm reading the meaning here correctly (I admit I may not be) this seems way over a line.

Thoughts? Tell me there's a much more family friendly meaning to this arrival.
One would be making a stupid mistake to presume that all of the Texas ATC are a bunch of CNN stereotype juvenile right-wingers, or whatever you are implying. Dallas is anything but that, for instance. It's hard not to take up an offence to this initial post.

Instead of trying to inject some sort of controversy into intersections and waypoints, I can put you to work doing drywall, plumbing, floor repairs and carpet installs.

By the end of the day, you will not be worrying about stuff like this :)

Texas doesn't create STARs or name waypoints. Strictly FAA in OKC and TRACON.

My understanding is that technically you are correct that the FAA creates the fixes and names and approves them, but I'm 99.9% sure that local controllers develop the approaches and arrivals including fix names and submit them to the FAA for approval.

Centers, and certainly in coordination with busy TRACONs like this, do develop routes and select names for STARs. But approaches are handled differently, with the majority of development (and fix naming) happening in OKC. For approaches at major airports, a TRACON or CENTER will typically specify the generalities of the approach procedure, and request any reserved fix names they may want to be used, but in lieu of that, and at smaller airports, the actual design work and obstacle analysis and fix naming and such is performed by the specialist in OKC. Who does select names for fixes that aren't specifically specified or requested by ATC.

I've already got my flame suit on.

Perhaps the OP sees everything in life through the prism of racism.
While I despised Barry, it had nothing to do with his race, but everything to do with his politics. I would NEVER have had a second thought about the names of the fixes having anything to do with the former president.

Where has logic and sanity gone???

No need for a flame suit.

It is naive to not think that most of the loathing for ‘Barry’ was about race, camouflaged by politics, culture, economics.

The OP is probably right but it’s not very important. I imagine some bored planning person straining their brain to come up with new 5 letter waypoint names. Surprise, a bit of well disguised fun of the President they despised for political reasons surfaced! So what.

But it’s almost always about race, especially when the counter arguments are so energetic.

Wrong. That's a projection. Many, many of us genuinely believe that all mankind is created in the imago dei... and we also seriously believe that ideology is waaaaay more important.

Perception is first person subjective.

This is a stunning amount of projection. You and the OP heard BERRY and WOOKIE and thought of President Obama. And based on what happened in your own heads, you're accusing others of racism.

Once again, I'm stumped as to how anyone sees "Berry" and automatically thinks it must be making fun of "Barry". Maybe it was honoring Barry Goldwater, since we're "assuming" it must be "Barry" but spelled wrong.

Or while we're playing the letter substitution game, maybe it's making fun of Bill Clinton, because maybe some people called him Billy, and that has B---Y, like Berry...

Berry = Barry is already reaching. Everything past that is even moreso.

Occam's razor is a philosophical principle that states the simplest explanation is usually the best one.
Is there a FAA conspiracy to belittle a president, or are these what they seem to be - odd names?

Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values.
No need to respond, but a respectful request to you to consider could you might be seeing something you want to see because it fits your pre conceived notion of Dallas and Texas, and that racism is everywhere in everything at all times? Add to that if something could be in any way racist, it is?

I agree 100% with your assessment of what was behind the hate for President Obama. It definitely was mostly due to his race and the belief that he was Muslim. America has not changed as much as we hoped it has.

However, I do not think there is anything to the theory about the names on the approach plate. That really is trying too hard to find something that really isn’t there.

We are all just different shades of brown.

Are there some racists in the US? Duh, yes there are, but a significant percentage of those smeared as such probably aren't, or are very mildly so. I do know a few individuals, but they are definitely a minority in the conservative circles I run in. I'm convinced that the vaaaaast majority of the opposition is actually primarily opposed to the ideology held by said individuals rather than their skin color. I would FAAAR rather live on a street with blue-collar Americans who are hispanic or "black" than a hoity-toity street full of insufferable persons who think I'm racist just because I have the same skin color as they do, but vote differently. That is in fact the kind of street I'm on - I assume they vote differently than I do (based on voting numbers where I live), but we get along fine. I have literally 0 white neighbors on the part of my street I know of. In my opinion, the unending drumbeat the left is blasting out is reversing the peak progress of maybe 15 years ago or so. It's forcing people to choose sides in a worse way than I can remember in my lifetime.
