Sportys: Flight Cam

Has anyone used this flight cam that Sportys Pilot Shop is selling?

Any inflight videos available online using the FlightCam?

There is a demo video right on that page. Looks like it has the prop issue some phones have from how they scan the image.

Looks like the Contour HD camera rebranded for Sporty's.
Maybe someone else can comment further?

I watched that one and was not impressed with the apparent audio interference.
So I'm looking to sample other videos shot with the same system.

So far it seems that the GoPro video is a much better camera at half the price.

$400!!???

There are a bunch of much cheaper alternatives; here's one that costs $22.70 and is small enough that it is marketed for use in radio control aircraft:

Also, this guy has been recording many of his student pilot lessons on a keychain camera that cost under $20 (this is his solo):

I suppose if you must have super high quality and willing to pay for it....

aircraft spruce carries it, too, for the same price

That's not quite the same camera as the FlightCam in which some extra circuitry was added to patch in pilot audio. The contour cameras just have a built in mic.

I've shot a lot of video with the Contour, GoPro, Drift, and Sony cameras in my Pitts and the Contour is a really good quality camera in both it's ruggedness and it's video quality. Here's a video I shot with the Contour HD flying an aerobatic sequence over the contest box at Warrenton VA:

The other videos on Vimeo were shot with the Drift camera.

I have a Contour HD GPS on order that should be here next week.. I plane to use it primarily for formula car racing video..

I have been using an AIM SmartyCam, which is similar but earlier design. Has GPS but not HD nor the good mapping that the Contour has.. and the Contour is $350 vs SmartyCam was $1k.

The guys I know using it on racecars like the Contour.

I'll post some sample video soon.

regards,
Mike

I'm still waiting for a good PoV cam with a microphone input. I don't like recording straight-up intercom audio - It's just too dry. Airplanes have engines, engines make noise, and I want a little bit of that to flavor the recording. So, I prefer to record audio by having a pair of earbuds inside my headset and plugged into the mic port of whatever I'm recording with. For example, here's one vid I made that way:
