I know Canada doesn't recognize the sport pilot certificate but was wondering what that meant.
Could I fly into canadian airspace VFR to sightsee (in the Niagra Falls area) and just not land at a Canadian Airport or do I have to keep on the U.S. side of the line?

Thanks!

Can you fly over Canada? Yes. Can you do it legally? No. Your certificate is not valid on the other side of the line.

As Capt Geoffrey Thorpe said - Sport Pilots are US bound for the most part, except for Bahamas which recognizes the Sport Pilot certificate. Flying into Canada is a no-go for us Sport Pilots.

Not just Sport Pilot. Basic Med not allowed, either.

As for the Falls route....I think that's a call to the Buffalo FSDO for clarification.

how often does the ATC ask about your certificate?

The FAA only tells us it is EXP, the Canadians won't know.

Until something happens.

Flying in Canadian airspace illegally wouldn’t be something to tamper with. Could end up being very expensive and time consuming.
