...along about Friday night!

So, I washed my cellphone as it resided in the pocket of a pair of painter's pants last night.

Of course, I first had the obligatory "oh s***", deer in the headlights stare moment. But then I tore it apart removed the battery, Chris worked it over with a hair dryer while I got cleaned up for dinner and did some quick research on best treatments.

I put the unassembled phone in a "broiling bag" with a bunch of desiccant pouches and tossed it in the oven at 125*. It stayed there all night.

I put it back together this morning and it was still dead.

But...

I had just replaced e battery about six weeks ago, still had the old battery and thought I'd try that one.

Sure enough, it came back to life with the old battery installed. The trip trough the washing machine had ruined the battery but not the phone.

I don't know if I would've ever thought to check to see if the battery was the problem had I not had my old one laying there. Offered forth as a heads up...it might just be the battery.

I just ordered a new battery...$11.00. I'll take an $11 mistake over a $500 mistake any day!

Tried to listen to tunes while cutting the yard yesterday but no music on the phone.

Hmmm...did I cook the SD card or the slot?

Neither, but the card was flashed by the wash. Reformatted and reloaded with music and it's now fine.

:dunno:

I do dive work at a marina (fresh water) and am forever retrieving cells phones that fall out of people's pockets. The survival rate is about 50%. Obviously, the sooner I can get to them the better, but I had one that was down for two days that came back to life. Get the battery out, blow dry and bake (with rice if you don't have desiccants) seems to work.

Just put it in the drier for 15 mins on fluff. It will work fine after that. :D

I am paranoid about wallet, keys, and phone just because of such issues. I have a mini-panic attack if I don't now where any of those are at any time.

Cool, I'm wondering if the battery doesn't have some safety trip built into it for when it gets wet, it trips? It would save a lot of phones. Used to be if the phone went in the water turned on, it was junk. I saved one off the swim step of a boat because the battery popped out before it went in the water.

In June I visited Deep Creek in the mountains of northwestern NC. My Samsung Galaxy Note II slipped out of my pocket and to the bottom of the creek within the first two hours of arriving on location. As I stood up from the edge of the creek, I instinctively tapped my pocket and noted that the cell phone wasn't there. Looked around for a second, didn't see it. Peered over the big rock at the edge of the creek and there it was, laying at the bottom.

I took the battery out, dried it all off with a towel, then let it sit overnight. Worked flawlessly the next day, and is still running strong. I thought that pretty amazing.

My Samsung Galaxy S5 is supposedly waterproof, but I ain't gonna test it. ;)

Admit it. You dropped it in the toilet, then had to reach into the toilet water to get it.
