Ran across this amusing story while searching for images of Clint Eastwood's brief appearance in the 1955 movie "Tarantula":

Nice handling of an unexpected stress.

Oh no. I probably would have crashed.

Ever been driving and a spider comes sliding down his web from the car ceiling into your view?

That happened to me in the plane once. Thank God I was doing my run-up otherwise I would likely not be here to type about it. Lucky I didn't jump out and run into the prop.

No, but I was riding the motorcycle down the interstate when a 95ft spider started to cross the road. No, the spider was walking across the INSIDE of my face shield. :yikes:

Yeah, lots of brakes and to the shoulder of the road STAT.

Just the other day when doing some inspections on my airplane I found this. Spiders in a plane.

Holy crap, someone stole the inside of your wing and replaced it with wood.
That's not safe.

That's an Active Termite Prevention System (ATPS). Should be required in wood planes...

:D:D

Last winter the wife and I was driving and she gets in the glove compartment. As soon as she opened it I tell her to shut it. She asks why? I said we have a family of mice living in there, I saw the nest as soon as the light came on. I thought the wife was going to jump out of a moving car. Calm down honey I will take care of it.

But as she went to leave the next night I asked her, I wonder how many more are in the car. I said if something crawls over the seat do not jump out of the car. I could see this happening.

I've told students that their ILS looked like they were "killing a snake in the cockpit" before, but I never thought about spiders before. They're just little bugs you can swat or kill with your fingers...makes me wonder if questions about arachnophobia should be on the medical questionnaire. Just had an ant walk across my monitor. Creepy.

I never been bitten by an ant that sent me to the hospital. But I was bitten by a spider and spent almost one month in the hospital and almost lost my leg. Spiders I do not like.

I have gone through many checklists that turned into impromptu spider killing machines of death. Bees too. Ish.

I remember the movie "Tarantula." This was the best part:

 The best part of that poster is "From the Producers of Cockroaches in my Cockpit". in a turbo plane you can usually climb high enough fast enough to explode them. I used to deflea pets in my Travelair that way.
