Flying into SPG in a week or so, spending a few nights. I'll be flying in from the south, (From IMM) departing to the north (KCDK). Any tips or tricks that may not be obvious? Airspace looks a little complex in that area, but I will most likely be IFR on both flights.

Staying at the Hilton down the street, any good restaurant suggestions? Not getting a car, so prefer something in walking distance, but willing to uber for something extra good.

There are a number of restaurant options in the area, I cling The Hangar restaurant, which is on the second floor of the FBO. Quite a few others within walking distance. Airspace really isn’t that bad. If departing VFR, just let tower know direction of flight and they can suggest best freq for flight following from Tampa. If heading east, or arriving from the east, you will most likely be kept south of McDill Class D and below the floor of Tampa Class B (1200 ft). Nice airport to fly into, friendly FBO with reasonable parking fee.
They have self service fuel available, and it qualifies for a discount on first night parking.

I agree with tspin, it's really not a big deal airspace wise, even if you're not IFR. The tower will probably shoot you out to the coast below the bravo if you're not IFR, and maybe even if you are. They like to keep you below the bravo over the city, which I'm not keen on, but it's not really that bad.

CDK is one of my favorite destinations. Enjoy.

The Hangar has decent food and great views. I recommend the chicken and waffles. The best part of SPG is taking off and landing on those runways on the water's edge.

I'm gonna be with the wife, so I don't think she'd be super interested in airport food when there are a lot of other options....

The restaurant caters to the area outside the airport, pretty high end for a small airport, its comparable to a lot of the other options, but there are LOTS of other options nearby.

Have lunch at Steamers....their crab bisque is a favorite as an “appetizer”, the dish they call seafood pasta is my favorite as entree; too bad you can’t eight hour bottle to throttle, the bar is well stocked.
Stop by Tony’s on way back to airport and grab a quart of their world famous clam chowder frozen to go.

So many places with outdoor seating within few minutes walking distance from the airport. Kahwa coffee for coffee. DTSP isn't too far either, many places to eat there. Noble crust is good for a heavy breakfast. Any kind of food you are in the mood for, there are plenty of good options closeby.
