I have two weeks where I am not traveling, have no grad school classes, no work projects due nor major home/honey do items. It is MY TIME to grab the airplane and fly!!!

BUT DAGNABIT! I sprained my ankle last night. I did a real good job on it too and can barely walk. I am in a brace up to my freakin' knee. As this is the third time I sprained this ankle the DPM wants to also do an MRI as the ligaments may need surgery!!!

FRAKIN' ANKLE!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Scott,

So sorry to hear it. Hope it heals quickly. I hate sprained ankles, really messes with you. I used to sprain my every softball season it seemed. Finishing the game was always easy it was getting up the next morning that was tough. Probably should have just stayed awake and walking on it! Heal quickly my friend.

sorry about that scott.

your subject line reminded me though that we went to a minor league baseball game last night and i had a yummy hotdog with nothing but ketchup on it.

Since when do you need feet to fly a Warrior? :D

Hope there's no real damage, sprains alone are bad enough.

(hope the ankle gets better)

Note that early cherokees didn't have toe brakes and only the hand-brake is used.
The few times I flew a cherokee without toe brakes, it was pretty easy to use - even
on a pretty short runway (for a cherokee).

Sorry bout the ankle Scott BTDT. It stinks. Once my ankle swelled to the size of a grapefruit on a sprain could not belive it was not broken. Sigh.

Sooo how did you do it? Something heroic? Ahh prolly just walking out to pick up the paper on the front stoop LOL.

Sorry to hear about the ankle. My daughters are both dancers. The oldest one sprained her ankle a couple of years ago and the orthapedist said "You'd be better off if you'd broken it. It would heal quicker." The next year she broke her lower leg just above the ankle (not dancing, playing tag of all things!) She said he was right. It did heal faster.

What a bummer to not be able to fly.

Sorry to hear that Scott. At first, I thought this was going to be about the Presidential TFR over Chicago this weekend. :)

Yargh, it hurt just reading your post. Worst injury I've ever had was a nasty sprained ankle... my upper foot got as big as a ham and turned blue-black for a few days. Quite painful, too, as I remember. I was thinking "dang, if I was a horse they'd shoot me right now."

If you haven't been through this before, my advice for a speedier recovery is to not do any one thing too much: heat, cold, elevate, flat on floor, etc.

Don't sit or lie around too much if you can help it. Really, all you need to avoid is twisting or putting weight on the ankle.

I didn't wind up with a brace, nor did it need surgery, but I had it wrapped very tight for a while. Undressing it once or twice a day and letting it breathe, and a little gentle massage seemed to help.

Yeah, jeez, what on earth did you do? Please don't say you twisted it on an expansion joint or something really benign.

Ooph! Sorry to hear that. Not Fun. :frown3:

Don't know how you did it. Or, why you did it again. :frown3::frown3:

Strengthening exercises and improving proprioception might help prevent it from happening another time.
One of the best exercises is simply balancing on one foot. Then, as you get better at that, balancing on one foot with your eyes closed. (Both of these are best done barefoot.)

Hope you heal quickly.

Sorry to hear, Scott. Eat lots of mustard.

Ahh prolly just walking out to pick up the paper on the front stoop LOL.
Walking to my car after work. :frown3:

Did one of those tipping off of the bottom of the foot deals and did not even think anything of it until I got home and tried to get out of the car. OW! That will teach me to go into the office. Much safer to work from home.

A few years ago is when I did the first big sprain on that ankle. I was installing a pool liner in our scuba tank. I was in the empty pool and the ladder slipped. I fell 11 feet straight down and landed on my foot. I thought I broke the thing as I could not stand on it at all. The docs told me I would have problems and boy were they right. I have had several minor sprains on that ankle every few months ever since. But this is a big one.

Man- sorry you got hurt. I was expecting something from the Blues Brothers from the title. Rubberrrrr biscuit!

That stinks. Ankles can be a pain for years (36 1/2 so far). Tore mine up when a car broadsided our motorcycle while in college and it still gives me grief now and then. Best of luck to you.

don't be too sad. The prez is in town for the holiday weekend, so you wouldn't get to fly too much anyway :-)

Quitcherbitchin. It's only an ankle. I've heard a sawed off broom handle works okay.

BTW: both my ankles are so effed up I don't even jump from a truck tailgate.

When I was a kid I took a flying leap off the front porch and landed flat on my feet. Sprained BOTH ankles! I've had weak ankles ever since. Have never been able to stand up very well on ice skates. Wouldn't THINK of trying roller blades.
Yup. It lasts a long time.

Sorry to hear that Scott: You can always do what I did....

I sprained my ankle slipping on the marble steps at Versailles. Had hotel reservations in Etouge (Epernay)... and a stick-shift car. After checking into the hotel, had champagne with dinner - then after getting back to the room decided I needed a bucket of ice to ice the ankle down. Of course, it would be irresponsible to order a bucket of ice in the heart of Champagne country without also ordering another bottle.

No pain at all...
