Sometimes I wish I never tasted flight

I'm addicted. I wish I had the funds to fly everyday. I envy those that do.
Not for a living but flying for fun for yourself. I'm always looking skyward. I talk about flying everyday. My wife learned to deal with it after 25 years. She doesn't share the passion. Is there therapy for this obsession? Someday I will own a airplane but for now I pay FBO.

I was born with this obsession. I can remember building model airplanes when I was 8 years old. I have 3 boys 12 yr 16yr and 20yr and the youngest inherited this obsession

If I'm not flying in a airplane im flying radio control to feed the obsession.

I find that after I fly a lot during a period of time, my desire is not quenched, but rather I want to fly MORE!
 
If it is flight you want and not travel, plenty of cheap options. You have to free your mind from the idea of legacy certified GA stuff.
 
Sometime I wish I never tasted creme brûlée.

But I deal with.
 
The only way to satisfy the urge,is to buy an aircraft.

I'm really thinking about taking up powered paraglider the sake of getting airborn cheaply
When I want to fly with passengers I would rent.

Yep, always wanted to fly since first childhood memories. Unsupporting parents on the flying bug issue kept me from starting young. Now at 41years of age I successfully purchased my first aircraft that I "technically" can't afford. My 14 year old daughter grew up hearing me talk the talk and now wants to be a pilot. Told myself I would not deny her a dream. So now I'm close to soloing and she is working towards hers. The plan will be for her to solo on her 16th birthday, weather permitting. Nothing like boring holes in the sky with a 1972 Cessna 150. Might as be a G6 to us!
 
My least favorite thing to say or hear is "full stop"

It is in my blood and I crave it and it is always getting worse.
The last 2 years I have done a lot of flying. The next two, I will not do much and there are times I wish I didn't have the ability to miss it as much as I know I am going to.

I love flying.
 
Yep, it is a little like sex, the more you get the more you want.

When I was young and in my prime
I often did it all the time
But now I'm old and getting gray
I only do it once a day.

Go on out to the hangar and fire up the machine and go around the pattern a couple times, usually fixes it.
 
The addiction is cruel, in many ways.

But I wouldn't change a thing. :)
 
Over 400 hrs logged in 2014. That didn't seem to be enough

+1 E/AB is the way to go.

If I had a do-over, that's the route I would have taken although I feel blessed to own and fly a nice skywagon.

Exactly Brian! My wife doesn't want to go flying and I tell people who look at me sadly when I say that, that neither do I want to go shoe shopping with her. Yet we are both passionate about our respective interests. :D
 
For me, these are the times when a home flight sim really pays for itself. Is it the same as flying IRL? Of course not. But I can scratch the flying itch a bit when flying for real isn't an option. And I'm most willing to follow all procedures when I'm flying the sim because I can't fly for real. (Otherwise, it ends up being me doing simulated low level aerobatics in a stock 172.)

I come up with a scenario and treat the sim flight as much like a real flight as possible. Then, I challenge myself to stay within PTS tolerances and keep doing whatever it is until a) I get it right and within tolerances or b) I get tired of flying and shut down the computer. Either way, I've kept my head in the game and feel like I've done something to keep my flying skills fresh.

Have you thought about getting into an older T-craft or Champ or something like that? You'd want to do a real good pre-buy inspection or you could get stuck with something that needed a lot of $$$$$$$$$ to make/keep airworthy (think fabric recover, major engine overhaul, rusted tubing, etc.) but if you're willing to fly what some folks would call a "puddle jumper" I'd guess there'd be options that'd be more cost effective than renting.

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.
 
If I had taken up flying when I was young, I would have been much more productive (due to the need for a good income), and I think my life would have had more focus.

Early December I was in Oahu and went up in a powered glider (rotax engine) for first time with an outfit aptly named "Paradise Air Hawaii" - a husband and wife team who own the gliders and provide instruction. Checkout their site for some gorgeous pics.

IIRC, he said one glider was around 75k new with all bells and whistles. I think it runs on regular gas, and burns 3-4gph. We cruised around at about 75mph for an hour, great fun. He told me that getting an addon for such a weight shift control aircraft would take me maybe 10 hours. Anyone know a place in Texas where this can be done?
