Some Monarch butterfly photos

Nice pictures, thanks.

Around here, we have black swallow-tails. They lay their eggs on parsley, for some reason. Since we grow parsley in our garden, we always have the caterpillars eating it late in the summer.

When the kids were little, we brought a few in and put then in a fish-bowl, covered with a screen, with some sticks to climb on and parsley to eat. They went into their chrysalis mode, but we were missing one. About a week or so later, they all 'hatched' and we let them go. That same day I saw a butterfly fluttering along the floor (couldn't fly yet) and I was able to catch it. That was the missing caterpillar.

On a recent trip to the Hocking Hills I had butterflies sit on my finger and land on my shoulder. Utterly magical.

I once had a yellow swallowtail land on my shoulder. It stuck with me for close to an hour - I even got in my car, put on my seatbelt, and drove home - it stayed with me (it moved for the belt a little).

It was close to sunset so the only thing I can think of is that it was just cool enough that it was slowing down for the evening.

i thermalled with several monarchs last weekend. must be migration time.

Cool Photos! I admit though, I first thought you were talking about this GyroCopter. :dunno: I will build one of these someday, or a Sparrowhawk III.
