I'm hoping for some actual tomorrow. I have only "racked" up a tiny bit of actual since the test. (I got some actual on the test, so I am told, but I was under the hood.) Tomorrow looks like a good day to get the wings wet in relatively mellow IMC. Ceilings out at Frederick look like they'll be at about 3,000. I'm thinking of doing a half an hour of pattern work, then filing over to MRB to do the ILS or VOR there. I'll probably get the visual if the ceilings are that high, but hopefully I can get some time in the clouds! I've got a trip to MA coming up, and I need the practice.

Side note: I have taken the advice of the more conservative pilots of this board. I have kept flying at least three times a month, and I have met with my CFII for instrument practice.

Thanks!

Move out here. We're into the 9 to 10 months of the year when there are lots of opportunities to fly in actual. :D

Sounds perfect! Go for it Ben!

Now why does this get one star! LOL--I'm going to give it the MAX!!!

I did it! I got .5 actual, an actual approach, and even some T and Gs. Will update later!

I know. That's serious IMC with mountains and ice!

Ben thats the way I got my first decent IMC. Went up with Arnold on a day with 2500' ceilings and not to cold. Good confidence builder. Enjoy.

Ben,

Glad to hear you got some actual. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we finally transitioned away from the big puffy clouds that bite to the normal fall/winter/spring benign overcast...

... And tonight I already had my first cancellation due to:

MSN UA /OV 7NW MSN /TM 0025 /FL 032 /TP PA31 /SK OVC032 /TA M02 /IC MOD CLR /RM ICE IN CLOUDS/NO TOPS GIVEN

Icing! Already? Sheesh. I haven't had any actual since 5/14 and that was a total of 0.2 of sporadic in-and-out actual. Last time I had any serious actual was 12/9/04. :( :( :(

woohoo!! Actual is awesome. I can't wait to get more (.3 total for me now).

Congrats on finding the clouds this quickly after getting the IR!

Yes, as hard as we had to work to keep current under VFR, making sure we can fly IFR adds a whole new layer. Flying in actual is really important. No hood can really do the job.
