It's pretty. Until you have to get out of my driveway, and it's been hovering around freezing so it's actually turned to a snow/ice mix. Maybe I should've bought those new tires before the first snow rather than after. Hmm...

We had a huge rain and warm up here in Western PA -- should be moving your way soon.

Gonna get a bit windy later...

58F in Clarksburg, WV right now!

By the time I got up this morning, it had all turned to rain and melted the snow away. Nothing to shovel. Nothing to scrape off the windshield.:raspberry:

(OK, I will admit, I went out last night and set up the electric heater / remote I put on the dash to melt the windshield if necessary)

Well, Dan, I sure hope your rain and warm-up get here. It's above freezing, which means this stuff will melt off (in fact it's already melting over my tire tracks). The problem is it's supposed to get just below freezing overnight and stay that way through tomorrow, which is going to make it a very yucky day tomorrow with the residual snow/water/ice on the roads. Great...

I hate winter. Maybe I should move to South Carolina. At least then I'd be closer to where I start all my animal flights anyway. Although I suppose a simpler solution would be to live in a house without such a crappy driveway...

I have a cold that has lingered for a week and a half. Today, snow, rain, slush, so I ask Hubby to drive me to work, which makes him late. One mile from work, housefire causes road to be closed to all traffic. I get out, Hubby turns around and I slog through icy rain and slush in shoes that leak. Winter! Bah! Removed as many items of clothing as decent to let them dry. Humbug!

South Carolina has some charms. Or so I've heard...

My parents live in Northen NY (near Massena). Janet's parents live in SC (Near Columbia)

My plan: Live near my 'rents May-Oct, hers Nov-Apr.

:D

yea maybe a house without a 40% grade on the driveway is in order. or you could just mount a winch at the top of the driveway.

Not a bad plan if you can do it. I'd love a job that gave me that flexibility.

Honestly, I do love this house. It's a great piece of property, amazing views, and I don't have many neighbors in sight (although the ones that are insist on making my life miserable). There is just nothing that I hate more than not being able to get where I want to go when I want to go there. Once I accept that I'm not getting somewhere on time and move on, though, I'm back to being happy with it. :)

I don't think there are any flat parts west of Blue mountain. :frown2:

Our driveway is 600' long and about 12% grade.

At least 2x a winter I hitch the car to the F150 and tow it up.

I hand shovel it when it's really bad. Good workout!!

my parents house has a pretty decent grade to the unpaved driveway. it is a very convenient excuse to not leave the house when the weather sucks.

Actually, I have a winch at on my truck and a chain at the top of the driveway that I can use to pull myself up. The problem is the current mix is slippery enough that even that isn't working out too well.

One of my friends reminded me that I probably have my tires still overinflated, which I do. I'll go lower the tire pressures here in a bit and return for round two. I'll get up the driveway, that part isn't in question. It's just a matter of how long it'll take and how annoying it'll be. I'll probably get to work in time for lunch and to call up the tire store to say "Hey, I need new tires sometime soon."

Ted, you didn't make it to work???

Not yet. Called Rick at about 7:45 and informed him that I was going to be late. First time in 3 years I've not been able to make it out of the driveway on a work day, but then again I'm usually smart enough to park my truck at the top of the driveway when such weather is imminent.

I was late too. The plow trucks came by at 6:00. It took me till 7:30 to get it cleaned out. The little Vibe will not power through something that deep even if you got a running start which my short little driveway doesn't allow. I was wishing for a snow blower tho... it was heavy and deep.

The plow trucks have made it by my driveway repeatedly. If I had a normal driveway, it'd be fine. Actually, if it wasn't paved, it prboably would be better since I could likely get improved traction on gravel.

Oh well. Next purchase: new tires. I just hope this clears up by the weekend.

A nice airpark, not to far from the beach with enough paved runway to get us in and out. Mary and I are both on board for that move.

If the wx was better this weekend we were going to visit family in Louisburg, NC and then fly towards Wilmington and look at homes for them and airpark property for us. We have to retire somewhere.....:yesnod:

Two words: Tire Chains

I WIN!!!

Waited a few hours, let the snow melt just enough, rammed over it with the truck and got up the driveway. After a few times up and down, it's easy.

Time to call the tire dealer and order some new tires.

I've dealt with Tire Rack a lot, and may order from them. I'm going to go by the local tire shop, though. They give us a discount and it ends up being a bit cheaper than Tire Rack most of the time.

I have a waist high drift in front of the house, a knee high+ drift in front of the Jeep. I'm gonna go wade thru it and get the Jeep out onto the street so the snow removal guys can plow out the drive. Wind is still gusting 30-35 so we're not done yet.

I love snow. We don't get enough here for my taste. When we lived in VT, now that was fun. Seemed like anything under 6" was just a dusting. I loved it!

It's finally tapering off around here. The temps have dropped from 22 to 8 in the last four hours. We might get another inch before it's all done.

I just drove my daughter's friend home (she had spent the night), and was glad to have 4WD in my truck. Last night, at the height of the storm, we ended up on the warm side of the front for a few hours, so there is 2" of wet slush beneath 8" of slightly less-wet snow. In a few hours any un-plowed areas are going to freeze into a rock-solid block of snowcrete that will be completely immovable until the next thaw.

I should get down to the hangar to shovel it out before that happens, but we've got company coming over in a few minutes. There won't be any flying around here for a while, once the hangar door freezes down...
