Hey Spike... have you been around Dallas long enough to remember Harold Taft from Channel 5?

I bet Gary England was forcasting the end of the world and thats what led to your snow day.

You betcha - lawyer friend of mine used him as an expert on weather conditions. Jury ate it up!

Why? Tornadoes in the forecast? ;) :D

Wait! I know! You can SEE SNOW ON THE GROUND! ZOMG!

can you imagine, ...driving in snow flurries?

I went to college in Stillwater. At least it was pretty serious before they'd cancel class! Usually it involved a number of people slipping on the ice. At the airport, it was just due to the fact we couldn't get the airplanes out of the tiedown spots! This was rare.

I'm very thankful all of the trainers in lincoln are nestled in comfy hangers, although driving last night was a little interesting.

I was in ARTCC school at FAA OKC in 1977 when snow hit the city. 3-4 inches of snow in 3 hours and it kept snowing. Took 3 hours to drive 5 miles from school to apartment. They called out the National Guard to get people home from work.

OKC does not know how to do snow.

Hey! I landed on my butt at the airport just last Sunday walking from the hangar to my car. Ouch. Good thing I'm not some old geezer who breaks their hip every... Oh, wait. Never mind about that part. But my hip is fine.

Lucky for me a ) I had left my new (to me) David Clarks in the airplane and they were not in the flight bag I landed on and b ) there was no one there to see it (except for the border patrol guy parked at the other end of the ramp - dunno if he / she was paying attention or not - I do my best to ignore them).

Anyone know where I can get a deal on one of these:

Just Kidding.

(For now)

Snow day in OKC today part 2

Well we're on our second day off and they just cancelled class again tomorrow. At least this time there's a little bit of a reason. This was the snow we got yesterday.

I drove to the gym earlier today and it took me 30 minutes to go the three miles, so I won't complain about not going to school again tomorrow. Not that I would have anyway..... :D

I just got a phone call from my son just outside Tulsa. Says he has 5 feet of snow in front of the garage door and cannot get the car out.

Hey, that guy with the truck was smart, pulling his windshield wipers away from the glass before it snowed and they froze to the windshield!!

I lived in OKC as a kid. Snow was a regular occurence then, my kids still have (and occasionally use) my sled.

That stuff looks familiar...

I was up in WWW (Wunnerful Windy Wyoming) today and saw way too much of that stuff. No 20' drifts but there were some 10' piles beside some of our roads. Bitter, bitter cold though...reminded me of Montana.

Unless he parked his truck with the windshield already hot, they wouldn't freeze to it.

That's one of the tricks of driving in winter - If you're in dry snow, or if you're going to be stopping and parking outside when it's snowing, try to keep the windshield cold - That way, the snow won't stick and it won't freeze when it falls on the car later. A simple swipe or three with the wipers, and it's gone.

That heavy, wet stuff, though... Ugh. That gunks up EVERYTHING. Even overheated my truck once because it was sticking to the screen in front of the radiator, building up, and freezing. So yeah, the only time I overheated a truck was in cold, snowy weather! Pulled over, beat the ice off the grill, and it was happy again.
