So what's the etiquette on snooze rooms? If I'm too cheap for a hotel I just show up at the FBO at night with a Pikachu pillow and blanket and park myself in a recliner until the next morning? What's expected of me? What's expected of the FBO and/or everyone else? Is it any better than camping out in the back of a Grumman?

You should have enough room in the Grumman to just bring a hotel. I've even hangared my Cessna in @SixPapaCharlie 's Grumman.

I think they are generally more intended for pro flight crews waiting for their pax for a few hours during same day trips. But I bet you could probably get away with doing what you suggest if you are friendly with the FBO staff and don't look like you're just trying to cheap out on a hotel.

I've never used one personally but our pro company pilots use them when we do a meeting for a few hours and they can relax and be out of the way of the main FBO lounge. My wife also used one once when she was pregnant and got a bit queasy on a long flight from MT to OH so we stopped somewhere for an hour for her to rest up.

The more stripes you have on the epaulets, the better room you get. 5 stripes gets you upgraded to the super-secret "snooze suite".

I was upgraded to the snooze suite with only 3 stripes, and was told that with 5 stripes hookers were thrown in. So I've been working extra hard for the additional stripes.

Back in my check hauling days we had one route that landed at an out station at 8pm and departed at 6am. The company expected us to sleep on the couch in the FBO.

That was considered our "10 hour rest period".

Only the big FBOs are open all night

Most close so doubt you'd be able to crash for the night. Bigger airports/FBOs stay open late, some all night. Just hang out at the terminal and hook up with an airline crew going to their overnight hotel. Might even hook up with one of dem gorgeous flight attendants (said with a snicker).

Oh, excluding @Timbeck2's kid. Whew...

I've crashed in more than a few, mostly from weather. I keep a layover kit in my plane. If I can find a counch, lazy boy or other comofrtable chair, I'm good. I've also slept on the floor. if they have an after hours code to get it, you are golden. Lots of small Muni-type airports are like that. Big FBOs, not so much.

Not so sure the big FBOs want you camping out in their snooze rooms.

I've slept in several FBO snooze rooms. The best FBOs are the ones with their own bedrooms like XNA.

Airline snooze rooms typically suck unless you separate the flight attendants from the pilots. I've seen almost all out brawls between some Houston FAs and Newark Pilots.

Pretty much can assure you it’s better that sleeping in the Grumman when the temps are below freezing.
