Smoke Jumpers - a new pilot (show, not aviator) from Warm Springs Production, the company my son in law recently started working with.

---------------------------------
SMOKE JUMPERS
What kind of person does it take to leap out of an airplane, into a thick, choking plume of smoke right into the heart of an unpredictable forest fire? If something goes terribly wrong, only bravery, knowledge, the 75 pounds of gear on your back, and the smokejumper next to you can save your life.

This is the life of a smokejumper; they risk theirs to save others while trying to contain fires that destroy homes and forests every year. This is the ultimate battle of man against Mother Nature. You have to be passionate, brave and a little insane to become a smokejumper. Our series takes an in-depth look into the lives and stories of this elite force known as smokejumpers.

Thanks Greg, that was good. You should be proud your daughter married a MAN. Thanks for share'n that......was good to see.

oops - better clarify - my son in law works for Warm Springs Production company as a producer, the production company that makes the shows. He's not a smoke jumper. I am proud of him regardless - a man's man! :)

I fought forest fires for 5 summers when I was younger... 2 for the USFS and 3 for BLM.
When I was with the USFS, several fellow firefighters were selected to go up to Missoula for Smoke Jumper training. All came back with injuries- broken legs, arms, etc... I was asked if I wanted to go, and I said "Hell NO!.. I have ski season coming up! I can't afford to get injured right now!"

I was much happier arriving at a fire on a truck or a helicopter.... in one piece! Even if it meant hiking in the last few miles.

But it was a truly rewarding effort, both physically and financially. It got me in shape for ski season, and paid enough to help support me when I was a fledgling ski instr.
