Potatoes don't deserve to be sheltered. They are cowards... the soil turds of the garden... pathetically hiding underground from the big bad world above. Their predators, if you can even call them that, are things like worms, beetles and white grub.
...it's never black grub. They keep to themselves.
Meanwhile their tomato counterparts are up there every single day bravely facing the open air and all the atrocities that come with it. They take blows from violent storms, suffer long days of brutal heat and painful cold, and battle REAL predators, like rabbits, woodchucks, deer, raccoons... you know, things with TEETH.
Yet do tomatoes ask for shelters? No.
So, why are you people trying to mandate things the tomatoes don't even want? Do you not think they are capable of making decision for themselves without folks like the FDA breathing down their vines all the time?
Besides, you aren't even doing this to help them. You are doing it to help yourselves. So you selfish jerks can pluck them just in their prime of life and savagely devour them in all their juicy, delicious glory.
I don't know how any of you sleep at night.
I'm seriously craving a BLT right now.
