Hi all

I'd like to ask private pilots around your country how you get your planes usually. Do you have your own planes (private property), do you share it with a small group (group property) or is it complete rental?

First of all I want to introduce why I am asking this question. My Name is Chregi (typical swiss short name for Christian) and I am from Zürich, Switzerland. I am not a pilot, at least I have the paragliding licence ;-)

Me and some friends created an app (iphone / android) to organize shared stuff like planes, cars, boats and so on. Here in europe the typical way to get a plane is sharing it within a small group to reduce costs. And therefore many pilots use the app to organize the timeline and expense around the plane.

So, now I am very wondering how it is in your country. I would very appreciate any answer. Thanks.

For those who would like to test the app, please write me a short message and I'll tell you. I don't want to post an "ad" in my first post in a foreign board, even the app is complete free.

Lots of planes are part of partnerships or flying clubs. Shared ownership of aircraft is common here.

Am an aircraft owner. AOPA is the place to find most of them...

Three of us own our aircraft. Frankly, in many ways it's preferable to sole ownership.

Same here.

None of us can justify owning one outright - we don't fly enough.

But between the three of us, it makes perfect sense.

Own outright.

It's not that tuff if you really honestly figure your mission out and aren't afraid to shop, negotiate/barter/cash and walk.

I'd recommend not buying till you have been around the industry for a year or two.

Purchased a share offered by existing (and around for a long time) club. Very happy with the decision and wish I had done it sooner.

PS... ignore the panel shown in the Bonanza Photo... We've totally revamped it with an Aspen and GTN750 and improved layout.

I share mine with one or two friends. We use Google Calendar for scheduling and split costs. Works well.
