Shudder. What a gawdawful car! I never had the privilege of driving one, only riding in one. Still. Shudder. Most of their cars were crap -- Maverick, anyone??!!!

My fil had one for a number of years. If it survived him, and his idea of automobile maintenance, it must not have been too bad a car.

I don't remember that commercial, but I did have a good Pinto experience:
My uncle used to have a pretty fresh one in the 80s that he'd dropped a bigger engine into... I borrowed it for a week of driving and camping all over central California, and it was a blast. Not bad at all on the mountain roads, and possibly a little too fast with that engine (can't remember what it was). I actually sort of miss that car.

I had a roommate in college with a Pinto. We carpooled the 150 miles one way home in it every other weekend listening to Led Zep on the 8-track. Great on gas.
