I received this reply from one of our NM Senators in regards to the letter I sent to him. I re-wrote the one by Joe Williams(thanks again Joe). Thought I would post it here.

Dear Don:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent incursion
of a Cessna into restricted airspace over Washington, D.C. I
appreciate your taking the time to write.

I understand your concerns about aircraft being shot down
for entering the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) over
Washington, D.C. Since September 11, 2001, the government has
taken steps to ensure that no other plane can be used as a weapon
on our nation's capitol. This includes measures to warn aircraft
that have entered restricted airspace by using signals consisting of
highly focused red and green colored lights in an alternating signal
pattern. If the aircraft does not respond to these warning signals
and it is not in contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC), it will be
intercepted by military aircraft. Only as a last resort, would the use
of force be authorized. As this recent incursion demonstrated,
ATC and the military took extreme steps to avoid any use of force
and ultimately resolved the situation peacefully and safely. It is
important to recognize that we must approach every breach of
restricted airspace with caution, but I agree that every step should
be taken to avoid a regrettable decision and the loss of innocent life
that it would bring. Please be assured that I will keep your
comments in mind as we continue to address this issue.

Again, thank you for your email. Please keep in touch

Sincerely,

JEFF BINGAMAN
United States Senator

wow - I didn't get any response to mine yet. Thats a more personal response than I expected.

Don't ya just love a politician's smooth style? Ya get this nice letter which leaves you all warm and fuzzy, but when you go back and read the actual content you find the short, translated answer is:

You are entitled to your opinion, but we will shoot down whoever we perceive to be a threat.

But around election time I'll keep in mind that the above position torques you no end.

My thoughts exactly,

Beautiful Ed! Funny, sad and true at the sametime.
