Scientists messing with BACON!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could eat pork bacon. I am now limited to turkey bacon.....:(

My M-I-L is "low-sodium". Has to have turkey bacon. I refuse to eat it. Just another excuse to go to the airport (nice breakfast place on the field)!

Here's a paradox. Usually the less processed food is healthier, right?

Bacon is among the least processed foods you can buy - cut the bellies, some brine, cook/smoke, slice, and consumer fries.

Turkey bacon is among the most processed - the remnants from the carving stations are mechanically separated and put in dark bins or light bins. The bins are taken and made into a pasty stuff that is then put into 30 ft trays where the artisan uses trowels to mix in some light paste and white paste to simulate the fat portion of bacon (they do it by hand for realism). When the tray is filled to the height of a bacon strip it goes into the oven. Then on to the slicer and off to the consumer.

Why can’t they just leave bacon alone? Most turkey bacon is flavorless, and tastes like cardboard.

::sarcasm alert::

Bacon comes from a pig.

Turkey ain't bacon.

Those two words should never be used together, unless you're ordering a club sandwich.

Jus' sayin' . . .

I think it is just more political correctness run amok.

Turkey Bacon is made from Turkeys who self identify as pigs. There's a huge rift between them and the soy products that self identify as Tofurkey because the Turkey Bacon manufactures discriminate against the vegetable based non-pigs and the turkey based non-pigs look down their beaks at the veggies.

Oh the humanity.

Get your arse out in the country and find a pig farmer that sells the good stuff. Price probably better too. I mean we get some thick bacon, mmm mmm good!

Next week I'm flying down to Tyler TX to shoot hogs on my sister's property. Hmmmm bacon.

And they're still running with the false "lower fat is healthier" myth.

It's not fat that's bad, it's rancid fat and processed fat that's bad. And combining fat with sugar and flour.

Makes no sense. Adipose tissue is one of a mammal's best defenses against the cold. Whale blubber is a good example. How is lessening the fat content of a pig going to make it do better in the cold?

And now for a serious question.

Ohmygosh. I can't stand that stuff. May God let me die with a full stomach. Life without bacon would be meaningless but lean bacon would be preferred.

can ya hook a brotha up or what?
'Tis the season of giving . . . spread th' love . . .

This is my first trip, once I get the bugs worked out I think I can.

Every year I have my fellow former 1%'ers* over for a chili fest on Veterans Day. I hope this year to serve some bar-b-cue.

Don't feel bad. Most the people posting in this thread are in line right behind you... as am I. :(

Yesterday we started moving into the new to us house. I am limited by the cardiologist to not lifting more than 20 pounds, and I may have exceeded that a few times....I hired some teenagers from church to do the heavy work. But I feel great..!! A couple sore muscles, mostly in my lower back, but I actually don't feel my age today. I feel like I did in my 40s.

Time for me to get into my cardiovascular exercises.

I wish..!!! Instead I converted one artery into a blockage....

There is *some* evidence that saturated fat isn't the threat doctors thought it was.

I don't often eat bacon, but if had to substitute something for it, I think I'd pick ham or Canadian bacon. Either that, or make turkey sausage from ground turkey. The storebought kind has sugar added, which is definitely not what you want if you've got a bad ticker. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Healt...t-Disease_UCM_460319_Article.jsp#.WfOEFohryUk

That's awesome that you feel a lot better! That and you got some teenagers to do some work! Are you working on your medical?

For now I am collecting all the medical records, including my next visit to the cardiologist. Hoping to get good words on that visit, then I'll get to work on the medical. I didn't lose it or have it denied, I just let it expire.

The kids really busted their butts. They were tired at the end of the day. We only lost one head board off the trailer, but it was at low speed turning through an intersection. Only a few minor scratches on it.
