I figure that since I'm new here, I might as well drop in and say hello before I start getting involved (I joined a few days ago and have been reading through some of the threads).

I'm not a pilot (yet!), but I am starting lessons for my PPL in about two weeks, at Somerset Airport (SMQ) in NJ.

So, uh, hello!

Welcome, Phil! We have a pretty big contingent here from the East coast, so you may be able to hook up and get together with some of us! In fact, you should check out the threads under Fun Places to Fly -- Wings FlyBQ for info about the forthcoming get-together in Philadelphia! Even if you can't make it in person (this time!), this board is a LOT of fun! Let us know how your training is going when you start, and feel free to pipe up with comments or questions!

Welcome Phil! Glad to have you on board! Good luck with your training and keep us posted with your progress. Feel free to contribute to the conversations!

Phil,

Welcome, don't be shy, ask lots of questions as there are a lot of smart people here, and good luck on your progress towards the PP rating.

Scott

Hi Phil and welcome. What are your plans for flying after the PP?

Hi Phil and welcome. What are your plans for flying after the PP?

I'll probably go for an instrument rating after finishing the PP. I've always wanted to learn to fly, so it'll be fulfilling one of my life's goals, but the more practical side of it is that I could take myself and the girlfriend off on day/weekend trips to places not too far off (or places the airlines don't fly).
