the current batch of kids have no clue how good my generation had it.

This video brought back some good memories

I never stopped. Have a few seasons on dvd. :devil:

Hard to beat the old Bugs Bunny / Roadrunner Hour. Bugs had some fine writers, as did Foghorn Leghorn. And Wile E. was a riot.

Even the Looney Tunes episodes you can purchase through official channels have been picked over to eliminate the ones towards the more violent end of the scale. It just isn't the same without all of the mayhem which surrounded Daffy & Elmer and Wylie and The RoadRunner.

There are a lot more choices today, some of which are dreadful, but there are still some gems coming out.

Anybody remember Sea Hunt? Wasn't that Saturday night? Mike Nelson facing the terrors of the ocean, all in Florida's Silver Springs park.... :)
 
I saw a few Sky King shows on Saturday mornings, before I was old enough to have to go to Catechism. I was too young to have impure thoughts about Penny. (Now Leonard's Penny, on Big Bang Theory, that's another story!)

Actually, Catechism was during the school year. During the summer my mother would drag us to a public swimming pool for what my older brother called drowning lessons.

After that, we were big and old enough to start working the ranch - putting up hay, working cattle, working ground to prepare for planting, cutting trees down, etc., etc., etc. No wonder I don't do well at Baby Boomer trivia!

Thanks for posting the High Flight video. The local (Wichita) station would broadcast that as a sign-off. It brought chills to me then, and still does, today.

I found this thread because I was looking to see if anyone remembered Sky King. Last week, I found a ranch with a dirt strip for sale in AZ, not that I was going to seriously entertain the thought of moving there. Then, w/o knowing Sky King's ranch was in AZ, I was wondering if it would be sacrilegious to buy a Cessna 310, name it Blue Bird (I'd forgotten the plane's name was Song Bird), and call the ranch Sky King Ranch.

I looked for the Sky King show on DISH, and they have a Sky King movie available, and described Sky King as a retired Naval Aviator. Wikipedia gives more details. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_King

On a more practical side, I grew up a cowboy, and I figure I could lease the land out for grazing, to generate some passive income, to supplement retirement and investment income. The place couldn't have done too badly, the current owner has flown off his dirt strip for 22 years! I don't know what plane he flew/flies, though.

When Yosemite Sam was politically acceptable and Eggo waffles with Aunt Jemima for breakfast was not the surefire gateway to diabetes...miss those days.

While Wild E Coyote may forever now be labeled a bully banished to yesteryear as a time of insensitivity...the RoadRunner actually taught me how to outsmart the bullies!...and while the antics of Tom and Jerry would never be tolerated today, they taught me about respect and boundaries even in the heat of the moment.

We have lost a lot.
 
My kids watch Tom and Jerry nearly every day on TV. I think they started making new episodes again at some point instead of the old reruns, but I can't really tell much a difference from the ones I watched in the 80s.

Oddly enough, they tried to make a new Looney Tunes show a recently, but I thought it was too crass for my kids. I don't understand why old Looney Tunes is considered politically incorrect, but nowadays they can talk about butts, burps, farts, poop and even mildly sexual things on cartoons all they want. How is that better? My kids are allowed to watch the old stuff anytime, but we're very selective on the newer cartoons. Craziness.

Although most of the cartoons in the OP are before my time, we still had it good in the 80s. There were still Saturday morning cartoons like Looney Tunes, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo, and the Flintstones, plus some other good cartoons like Talespin, which is 100% aviation, Ninja Turtles, DuckTales, Thunder Cats, Transformers, Johnny Quest, etc. I feel like my childhood was much the same as a kid who grew up in the 60s or 70s. We played outside pretty much all the time, except for Saturday mornings. They did show a couple hours of cartoons after school on weekdays too. I was allowed to watch for an hour after school.

And the PF Flyer commercials.... I never saved the astronaut from the evil Russians... but I did relentlessly bug my parents to get me a pair...

Let's see...Saturda Morning...all that comes to mind right now is of course Bugs Bunny, etc...Space Ghost...Mighty Mouse...Quick Draw McGraw...Rocky and Bullwinkle...I'm sure there's a lot more.
