Taxi to Parking
Those who have taken a checkride or flown in the Madison area will probably recognize the name Phil Winiger. Air Force (KC135) vet, pilot, CFI, check airman, examiner, he did it all and was a consummate pilot and gentleman. Most recently, he was the flight school manager at Wisconsin Aviation (Madison) and one of two local DPE's. He was always willing to chat and was an amazing instructor, always very constructive and willing to let you screw up without touching the controls provided safety wasn't compromised.
Personally, I took my second "intro" flight with Phil (my first at KMSN), he was in the right seat for my first landing ever at the end of that flight, and I took three checkrides with him.
Phil died last night after being diagnosed with lung cancer a short 2 months ago.
RIP, Phil.
