This is probably the best video I have seen. It is about 6 minutes. I urge all of you to watch it and get your family to watch it as well.

It has been provided based off a Department of Homeland Security Grant Funded Project and was produced by the City of Houston Texas Mayors Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security. It is a July 2012 production.

notice the big "no concealed handguns" sign as the shooter walks into the building

Where have I seen that before... Oh yeah. Duck and cover!

Yes.

Well done. I wished they'd show those that fled the bldg, moving MUCH
farther away.

Heh. Govenrment now puts out "Run, Forrest... Run!" videos with our tax dollars. I'm so impressed. Ha.

Yes, so I guess that is why he used a shotgun. :mad2:

While, I am a big proponent of avoid, and evade at all cost, if there is a good chance this guy will kill multiple people, I'd rather someone stand their ground with the ability to shoot back.

Gun free zones = fish in a barrel

Geez, selling paranoia much lol

Folks are still more likely to drown in their bathtub, why dont they put on videos to protect my from my tub?

Just having people glance at this video may one day be of some use to someone....maybe.

There are folks out there who learned at a very early age, that if they scream loud enough, the scary situation will go away. This can be somewhat problematic for those who might be hiding with the person who is fond of using this clever tactic. Not only can it damage ear drums, it could even provide the attacker with a clue as to where their hiding place is.

A person who finds it comforting to scream when frightened might, by watching this video, discover that it could endanger those around them.

In all probability, simply watching a video will not turn someone into a counter terrorism expert, but it might give them at least something to work with, as apposed to having no clue whatsoever.

So as dumb as they may seem to be, along with being a huge waste of tax dollars, such videos can be of value to someone. It beats the heck out of slapping some sense into a screamer.

One of the problems with the run away concept is the active shooter can join the rush of people running away...

It also complicates the job of the responders.

This is my preferred solution for that type of situations...

:D

Do you feel lucky punk ?

Kinda sad when the line between real and parody is so blurred.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: My first grade class was the last that experienced that at our school, second grade we did the same thing but it was a tornado drill then.

You know, I honestly don't recall if we ever did the "duck & cover" nuke thing in school. We did tornado drills ALL the time, living as we do in tornado country. I do remember, though, developing a finely honed skill for dropping straight to the ground, face down, without smashing up facial or body parts, when a drill sergeant screamed those magic words... "BRILLIANT FLASH OF LIGHT!" And we could all stop what we were doing and be in gas masks in a matter of several seconds.

Ah, the memories. Happy 2013, everybody. Maybe someday we can see a generation grow up with more benign bogey men.

OK, maybe this is just me, but I could swear that the sign started out "Pursuant to Section 30.06..."

Yea... it really says that. 30.06 :goofy:

I'm sure it was somewhat intentional too, when they wrote the law 15 years ago or so.

Texas penal code section 30.06 is the relevant chapter and verse for posting a no-guns sign in Texas. To be legally valid (and subject the licensed concealed carrier to trespass charges) it must be big, block letters either 1 or 2 inches tall (cant remember which at this second), contrasting color from background, and posted at every entrance and contain the specified language called for in the Penal Code.

A sign of a pistol with a circle slash means nothing here, as does a sign simply saying "No Guns".

I'm on my third renewal of my four year CCW here in Texas.

Is it just me, or don't you think everybody pretty much has the run and hide part down. It's the fight part that is pretty fuzzy.

Man I remember those idiotic days. Hiding under the desk, leaning our heads against the interior wall in hallways, all to the incessant drone of some pathetic teacher urging everyone to make them selves as small as possible to survive the blast...

Doubt it. Run, maybe - That's instinctive. Hide, well... I think the panicking lady who can't stop crying "oh my god" is probably what many people would do. They don't think about the situation at hand or how to solve it, they panic.

My fiancée is a middle school band director. I played the video for her - and I hope she never has to use it. They've also done some active shooter training to go through their procedures, and it was rather illuminating - There was no announcement for over eight minutes, as the first thing the "shooter" (a police officer) did was to kill everyone in the office - They're the only ones with access to the intercom system and the knowledge to use it.

They talked about upgrading their intercom system to allow it to be used from any phone in the school, but decided against it lest the code get out and enable its use for pranks. :mad2: With that kind of head-in-the-sand approach, it's no wonder the school shootings keep being so successful for the shooter. :frown2:

That is pretty wise actually. This would soooh happen. Maybe they need a weekly password or something.

Or maybe they need to realize that even if pranks happened occasionally, that is far outweighed by the need to allow for communication during an active shooter incident. :frown2:

I am a "First Responder" and I am a member of an "Emergency Evacuation and Shelter Team" at my full time job, and we had to watch this video during our training. I found it kind of funny, but I suppose it may be of some use to someone.

Aim-Shoot-Shoot

seems to be more efficient than Run-Hide-Fight. . . .
